Hi there, I just got myself a K1000 Pentax camera, as a gift. I'm not a collector nor photographer, I just wanted to know more about this camera its value and if one can just keep it as a collectors item. I noticed its different from all the ones I've seen so far, it has no sahai LOGO like the others.. It is fairly new... Kindly advise accordingly.

You have yourself a camera with pedigree and it would be a shame not to put a few rolls of film through it before you decide whether to continue to use it, store it as a collectible or sell it on.

Using a manual film camera is interesting and rewarding and can be fun - it is an experience no one should miss. Like learning to drive, at first there seems too many things to think of but with the help of a little reading most people soon master the basics.

There is plenty of information online - see link below...

Have fun!

You may have a short in the wiring if the fire stops when you unplug it. Sounds like something electrical is arcing. This is dangerous and you should take it to a qualified repair shop. Using it in this condition can cause serious injury or death.

SOURCE: The waste ink collector/tank is nearly full

The ink collector should be found underneath where the cartridges normally rests. Put some tissue paper on the ink padand let it absorb the ink. You might have to repeat the procedure a few times to get rid of all the ink.

SOURCE: how do you find the waste ink collector on a printer/scanner ?

Inkjet printers have a fibrous pad inside them that collects the waste ink from cleaning the print head. Over time, this pad fills up with ink and can no longer hold any more. When this occurs, the printer indicates a "waste ink tank full" error.

The waste ink absorption pads are inside the printer, in the very bottom. They are usually soaked with ink when full and are very messy.

Replacing the waste ink absorption pads is something an authorized canon service facility can take care of for you.

SOURCE: pentax K1000 camera

Unfortunatly I am in Brazil and not aware on repair services in Mumbai. BUT addressing your question, YES all Pentax mount (bayonet) will fit in K1000. As a matter of fact, this is an extremely reliable and simple camera, assuming you are skillful in manual mode shooting. In the "used" market you can find a lot of bargains suitable to the K1000. Try some oldies (but goldies) Takumar lens.

Question edited for clarity. All questions need full 'make model (what it is)'. I took a wild guess from 'K1000'. :>D

How do i find out the year my pentax k1000 was made?

Hi Joy,

The folks over at Pentax Forums had the same questions. They created a database with information that they could obtain from their member's K1000 cameras. This is not an official list - but just what some folks cobbeled together on their own. You can download it from their page, here.

From what I can tell, there were people that purchased K1000 with lower and higher serial mumbers than yours in 1986 (s/n 7785273) and 1987 (s/n 7817712). That indicates yours was was likely manufactured about the same time.

I hope this helps!

I have a Pentax k1000, and was given a few vivitar and olypus lenses. They do not fit the camera. What can I do?????

Vivitar makes lenses with a variety of mounts. Lenses with the Pentax K-mount can be used on the K1000, lenses with other mounts can not.

Olympus lenses will not mount onto a Pentax camera.

You can sell the lenses, give them to someone with the appropriate camera(s), or use them as paperweights.

Can't get my lense off!

You can use any mm lens you want as long as it was made to fit the K1000.
Is the lens a Pentax lens ?
Push the lens release button down and turn lens Clock-wise then while holding release button down quickly turn lens counter clock-wise, it should come right off.
If it did not then it must be disassembled to remove the lens.

Film advance

I don't suggest that you attempt to repair this yourself. The K1000 is a very solid camera and one that isn't very expensive to repair. Please do yourself a favour and take it to your local camera repair shop. You'll be glad you did.
