No volume on my sony icf-sw55 good sound when external speakers are connected

Real low bass is mostly vibration. Anything that has a "mega bass" 'enancement' is cutting corners to make up for bass-reproduction shortcomings. Speakers measuring 2-5/8' have no business reproducing real bass. Blown speakers would be silent. Torn cones from excessive volume might sound like unwanted vibration. Your vibration might be a resonance of the unit's own housing, mounting hardware or something nearby. Try moving it to another location.

These units are not economically repairable. If you like it and you think it's broken you might snag a whole new on on eBay with wise bidding.

There are some possible reasons why the sound is not working. It could be the volume control is in "MUTE", or the right sound card is not selected in the volume properties, or the speaker is defective.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Try to connect an external 2-channeled PC speaker. The computer should recognize the speaker and the sound should be transferred to the PC speaker. If the sound works on the PC external speaker, then you know that the volume control is NOT in mute and the sound card is selected. It means also that the built-in speakers could be defective.

2. If the same problem occur after connecting an external PC speaker, check the volume control, and make sure that the "MUTE" box is not checked. Then adjust the master volume.

* If everything's properly configured, but there's still no sound, check the volume properties under the Control Panel. Be sure that the correct sound card driver is selected. If that did not help, try to re-install the sound card driver.

* And the last option, contact the manufacturer and have them fix it for you.

Go to control panel / sounds / audio, and see if the boxes have greyed out writing, if so then the driver needs reloading, if they are all good check all settings.

Meant to ask if volume control icon is showing in the right lower task bar.

The proper way to do this would be to use the audio output from the TV, either analogue left and right or the optical port, and send it into an dedicated amplifier or AV receiver. You can then use the amplifier or receiver to power the external speakers. If you are using a dedicated amplifier with no volume control you will want to change the audio output setting on the TV to "variable out" as oppose to its current "fixed out"settings. You can find this in the TV menu, usually under the audio settings. This will allow you to use the current TV remote to adjust the audio volume coming out of the external speakers.

Most PCs and laptops have an audio out jack, usually colored light green. Most external powered speakers have a 3.5mm mini plug that goes into this jack, usually found at the back of the case, or both at the front and back (for PCs), or somewhere around the sides, or at the back of your laptop.
You may control sound volume from your PC, while setting the volume close to the highest on the speakers, or the other way around. Your choice.

Seems speaker voice coil is not working due to stiffness and its irreparable. You should replace speaker of radio as per following part number..

1-529-942-11 SPEAKER (7.7cm)

Available in Part Store.

I have the same radio.

It was given to me not working
I took it apart.
Was surprised about the contacts not being soldered
After re assembly and with new AA nicads it started.

First it would take clock and then go off
losing clock settings.
then it comes on and starts fro factory CAL menu.
after repeating many times now coming on with all functions
volume not great
sensitivity/signal strength good
Now after recharging batteries stays on and last longer.

It appears that resistance/poor contact with circuit board of battery connections causes l;oss of voltage.

Suggest follow these steps cleaning with solution and may be also re tensioning contact contact areas.

First Things First:
1) Check if your external Speakers are connected on the external sound card output connector **
2) Check on control panel and multimedia if your sound card (external) is enable, and not MUTED sound. Rise the volume.
3) check cables from Speakers and see if not old or broke.
