I have an Acer 1680x1050 monitor. I use the DVI connection (CAD video card). It's fine, except if I walk away from my computer for a little while. When I comer back, the screen is blank, as if it went into hibernation mode, but won't come back on when I move my mouse, hit a button on my keyboard, nothing. I have to reboot to be the picture back. I've tried messing with my computers sleep/power settings, but no change. I've set the display to go to the slide show screen saver, and I think that might have helped (I really should do some timed tests, but I've busy) - anyway, it just did it now when I'd only been away for a few minutes. I have to be ready to shut down ever time I walk away from my computer, which gets tedious when I have several projects open.
Acer says the problem is with my system, not their monitor (of cource) but offers no possible solution. Have any of you heard of this? Can you suggest what setting needs to be changed?
It is with your system. You might have hibernation enabled and many advanced video cards cannot recover from a bios or control panel timed hibernate. Start by using the Power Options from the control panel. Select "Always On" for everything and select the Hibernate tab to be sure that the Hibernate check box is not selected. Make sure you APPLY the settings. If the problem goes away, you can tweak the settings to get the power savings features you want without losing your system..

You need to change the resolution on your PS3 to match the 1680x1050 of the monitor:
Start with your PS3 turned off. With the PS3 off (showing a solid Red light) if you hold the power button down until you hear two beeps it will force the PS3 to forget any saved video output settings and boot up at a lower resolution. It will then take you through the Optimal Resolution set up.
Any monitor can be used as the second monitor for a computer. However, your computer's graphics card must have two outputs. Some simpler graphics cards, most on-board video chipsets and all laptops *do not have* two outputs. Please check the back of your computer for two VGA outputs, or one VGA and one DVI output (you can use it by connecting a DVI cable to your monitor, or by plugging in a DVI to VGA adapter).
If your graphics card does not have two outputs, or if your computer uses an on-board video chipset, you can buy another graphics card to replace the one you're using.
DVI ==> Digital Video Input
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs, and your PC's video-card has both DVI and VGA outputs, then buy a DVI-to-DVI cable, and use it, for a better picture.
If your monitor has both DVI and VGA inputs, and your PC's video-card only has VGA output, then use a VGA-to-VGA cable. Or, purchase a video-card with DVI output, to replace the video-card with VGA output, and then use a DVI-to-DVI cable.
Not Good.. After you've checked that the video cable is connected properly, make sure that all the pins in the video cable plugs are straight and not broken off. Then test on another PC. Make sure your CMOS battery has not gone flat, as some PC's will fail to load basic drivers if CMOS memory is lost. The battery should show no less than 2.5v, if it's marked 3 volts when tested on a multimeter. If you can't test it, just buy a new one at the supermarket or hardware, usually around $4.00. Next thing to try is your Video Card . If it is an on board one like most are now, there isn't anything you can do but try another card in an expansion slot or fit a new motherboard. At this point, I'm sad to say, you're better taking it to a PC shop where they will have a few things at their disposal to try.
1680x1050. It also depends on the video card how high the resolution can go. That's the max resolution though. Here's the complete specs for your monitor. Have a good day!
Its the usb, if u connect the monitor via the standard port, the vga port, it will work. If your monitor only have an dvi cable you can fix that by an adapter. That adapter should be an DVI to VGA.
1. It could be limitation of your video card. Older cards would not support high resolution for LCD monitors.
2. Be sure to use DVI(digital) output from your video card. You will not get a good resolution with VGA(analog)
3. When installing driver for a monitor sometimes you will get a chose to install analog(VGA) or digital(DVI) driver. Choose the correct driver.
The cable box is probably outputting a resolution the monitor is not compatible with. Computer monitor and television resolutions are usually different, and not cross compatible in some cases.
For example, wide screen monitors are usually 16:10 aspect ratio, while TV is usually 16:9 aspect.
The AL2216wbd is a 1680x1050 display, while HD TV is either 720p (1280x720) or 1080i (1920x1080).
If your cable box is set to 1080i that would be too high for the monitor. You will need to set it to output at 720p, and even then you will probably get a vertically stretched picture since the monitor has a taller aspect.
You have 3 ports on your graphics card(VGA - 15 pin D-Sub x 1, DVI x 1, and S-Video x 1)Now if you want to use DVI just connect the DVI port to your monitor thats all.. Enjoy!
