No video throught HDMI output

So I recently set up my Onkyo TX-SR605 reveiver and have ran into a few issues that I can not seem to figure out. I have an HDMI output from my receiver into my TV. I have my monitor output as "yes" to HDMI. For my HDMI input, I have DVD as "_ _ _", as I am using component cables from my DVD player into my receiver. I have the Component input for DVD set as "In 1". The video seems to upconvert fine from compnent to HDMI into my TV. When I attempted to do the same thing with other component sources, such as my Xbox 360, I can get the sound to come in fine, but the picture does not come in. I know it is not my receivers component input, as I have tried my DVD player with the other component inputs into the recevier and the video feeds through fine out to my TV with the HDMI cable. So I am not sure why the upconversion with component cables works with my DVD player and not my Xbox 360.

Another issue I had was with the HDMI cable input into my receiver. I set my HDMI input setting for my cable box as "HDMI In 1" and the sound from my Cable box comes into my receiver, but no video is outputted into my TV through th HDMI cable. I don't understand what's going on. Please help, as I am getting frustrated with this whole thing.

    Hi,
    I have similar problem. I got a brand new Onkyo TX SR605. I have a Panasonic - TH-50PZ700U 50-IN 1080p Plasma HDTV.
I have input from directv receiver using composite cables. I want to upconvert this to HDMI. I also did HDMI monitor : Yes and set the input/output assign to ---.
I can hear audio but can't see video. I didn't change any setting on TV. I noted that, there is HDMI monitor on on my TV as well.

    Please help.

My satellite receiver HDMI out goes to the TXSR605 HDMI 1 Input. I choose the proper input with the remote but receive no video or audio. Nothing at all. But when I take the same HDMI cable straight from the satellite output to the HD projector HDMI in, the video works beautifully. Also, with that HDMI configuration (not even going through the receiver), if I use component cables from the satellite L/R audio outs to the Onkyo L/R inputs, the audio is heard beautifuuly. Bottom line, when using the HDMI connections, neither video nor audio passes through the receiver. Any clues?

I also have a SR605 AV amplifier and I am trying to connect my Sky HD HDMI output to the TV via the amplifier. I get sound but no image. I can see the HDMI monitor when selected but still no video image! This is very annoying as I wanted to use the encoded digital surround sound in the Sky HD signal which I cannot seem to do at the moment. any solutions?

You should be an expert, not an "Apprentice", this worked for me (first I had to unplug the unit for a few minutes). I looked all over and this was the best answer!!!! Thanks botham1

my receiver has worked well for a long time. Now however when I use a dvd I get no sound except thru the tv. But if I use my cd player I get surround sound. I swapped the dvd player and the hdmi cable- no change. The dvd is on an hdmi input port and the cdplayer is on a cable input. the other hdmi ports devices don't get any surround sound either. Seems like a set up problem on the dvd port but I don't see any problems...

TX SR605 will only input composite sources at 720, if your X-box is set to 1080 then the signal is blocked through the HDMI output. Change x-box resolution or go straight to TV via composite.

I have solved this problem. I've managed to get my Sky HD and Playstation 3 to play through the amp. You setup the HDMI inputs in the Input/Output assign. Once you have donew that go to the 'Source Setup' menu, select 'A/V Sync' then press enter as requested, you should then see an image. This worked with me after fiddling around with it for a while but it does work.

SOURCE: new home theater setup- no signal at tv using onkyo tx=sr605

Could well be the quality of your cables. if you have high end cables the consult a service agent. if you have the cables that came with the products, go and get some better ones.

SOURCE: onkyo upconversion problem

This may be due to a limitation of the Faroudja DCDi chip used in the Onkyo receivers. See the Onkyo FAQ: http://www.us.onkyo.com/faqs_detail.cfm?detail=1&id=268

SOURCE: cant find universal remote code for the onkyo tx-sr605

Your onkyo receiver and remote controller only decodes 4 digit codes so what you have to do is to call the manufacturer of the remote controller it self and ask for the hexa decimal codes for their remote. They should provide it to you coz they're the ones responsible on doing that.

SOURCE: hdmi out [of amp damaged needs replacing onkyo tx sr605

You will need to contact Onkyo directly and request the board from the parts department. I was not able to locate a part number for this as we are usually requested to perform component level repairs for these units.

Unable to connect a blu ray dvd player to onkyo tx-sr605 via hdmi

Not sure what unable to connect means..but I will assume you have the correct cable.

First make sure you have plugged the from the HDMI cable from the DVD play into the IN 1 HDMI port on the back of your Onkyo

On the Receiver
Enter the Setup mode
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
Next make sure the HDMI monitor out is set to YES on the Receiver
Monitor out
HDMI Monitor - YES

Next you need to assign the HDMI INPUT to DVD
Select INPUT OUTPUT ASSIGN
HDMI INPUT
DVD - IN1
CBL/SAT - IN2

This may be your issue.

Next step would be to verify your television input settings.

Nice receiver!

Best of luck!

Sound won't play through Onkyo TX-SR605 when using HDMI

The chances are that you have selected an incorrect sound setting or not switched it on, for the HDMI you are using. With Onkyo receivers each connection will have it own settings for video and sound. You just need to look in the manual as to how to select the settings.

Goof information. Have you eliminated or proven the Onkyo as a cause by going direct to the projector? Try another Input and/or Output. It's best to know which component is broken and if it's limited to a specific subset of its function.

Settings are also indicated. Run through the video setup again. If it just stopped, what preceded it?

Brand new Onkyo Tx-sr605 won't leave stand by

If the unit will not leave standby I would remove all power, disconnect *all* connections at the back, reconnect to a power source and try powering on. This will eliminate any connection causing the Onkyo to stay in standby due to a short. If it still will not enter power-on mode, you may want to look at the power source (is it properly grounded?), but beyond that the unit probably needs to go back.
