Sony Cyber Shots camera, turn the power off and on again problem

My daughter's camera isn't working. It has a full battery. When you turn it the screen says "Access" then makes sounds and then "Turn the power off and on again". You can view the pics on the disk but that's it.

Hi,

Error: TURN THE POWER OFF AND ON AGAIN is displayed on the LCD screen when the Lens Mechanism is stuck or when affected by any malfunction. If turning the power on and off again does not resolve the error message, try doing a power reset and Initialize option.

Performing a manual power reset

Turn off the camera.

Remove the battery pack.

Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Allow the camera to remain without power for 60 seconds.

Reinsert the battery pack.

Turn on the camera.

To reset the Camera back to factory default, select the INITIALIZE Option from the Main Settings Menu of the Camera to OK. This will set the user defined settings back to factory default. The images and videos will not get deleted.

If the issue persists, service may be required.

Thanks,

KenSolutions

My daughter just had this problem and we found that the batteries you use must be the same type otherwise it won't work. Good luck!

Hello, peterdearsam,
I had exactly same issue with mine and tried so many ways to fix this. Was even ready to buy some new camera instead of this Sony dsc w-17 but then found a way of resetting camera in such way: powerdown and take batteries out. Then hold "power" button for 30 seconds, release and repeat couple of times. It helped

Will not power on properly

For what its worth I had this same problem with both rechargeables and alkcalines. Fresh batteries were rejected after just a few shots and were clearly NOT dead. Solution seems to be either use Sony's NP-NH25 cybershot battery which is made of two AA batteries jointed at the hip or use generic rechargeable NiMh batteries with a capacity superior to Sony's battery (>2500mAh).

Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-P72

Check the battery contacts inside the camera and see if there getting a good connection. If there spring loaded you might have to pull up on them slightly to get a contact going for charging. Look for corrosion as well.

It could be that the battery isn't holding a charge anymore if you are using rechargeable batteries in you camera. Most of them have a short life to them. If you can get a hold of another one, see if that solves that problem.

Digicam problem

Is it rechargable batteries (orignal for the camera), or are you using standard batteries? (AA/RC6 kind of batteries)

If you use AA batteries (or similar) make sure you use alkaline batteries of a good brand. Cheap batteries ofteh don't have the power to run digital cameras. Especially using the LCD screen drains the batteries.

If you have a new rechargable battery and it last only a short time see if using it and recharging it a few times helps the bettery "getting into it". If not, your camera may need repairs.

Not sure what you mean? You have 16 single shots one after another Now what do you want to do? Turn the camera back to single shot? Read the Manual -Full manual in PDF format on disk Do something with the shots themselves? Use image editor in computer Do none of these? Try another way of putting the question
