Makes espresso, coffee, water, but will not steam

The machine has worked great for six months, now it will not steam. you can hear the pump going and it spurts water like in the beginning but it never turns to steam. hi there, I too am having a similar problem with my breville espresso machine. Whereby i used to be able to froth the milk with no problems but these past couple of days, the steam button light is illuminated, when i turn the knob to steam the milk, the steam button's light goes off and the hot water gets illumintaed and all i get is hot water. It also does not make that thumping noise it usually does just before the steaming begins. Please help! I have tried clenaing it, letting the hot water run for a few minutes (not just seconds) but still the issue isn't resolved. I am thinking about taking it back to the manufacturer as it is still under warranty. Only prob is they are on the other side of the state :o( Many thanks, Alison

We have had our machine for 3 months and have the same problem. We can get espresso just fine but only hot water comes out of the wand. Also, the machine stays turned on even after we press the power off button.

The pump has gone bad - through use. This is a common problem, and has to do with the "seals" that are in the pump. Since the pump generates high pressure and heat, over time, the seals will fail, and will be unable to generate enough pressure and heat to create steam. The only remedy is to have the pump replaced through the Breville Out of Warranty repair centers.

We have this machine that we purchased in Italy in 1995 and it heats (left button) and steams but I can't get the water to pump (right button) through the coffee to go into the cups. Makes a loud clicking...

Obviously you have problem with non return valves at the pump, they are built inn the pump.
  • Remove the filter holder, open the steam valve and command brewing coffee. If water comes from steam valve close it> continue brewing and wait the water from coffee group. After this procedure test it with coffee.
  • If testing with coffee is successful you may work with that pump but always be careful to not leave empty water container.
  • If testing isn't successful you need to change the vibration pump.

We have a 4 month old gaggia titanium. Today, the steam wand stopped working. (It makes coffee just fine.) I've cleaned the steam wand. When I turn the steam dial, very little steam comes out and I hear a...

Sounds like the steam wand is getting blocked some where either at the metal end or in the parnello wand if you machine has one at the end of the steam wand, if both of those are clean then try this push in on the steam knob if that works then tap rod assemble or steam valve needs to be replaced, make sure to ask about the stainless steel valve instead of the plastic one.

If pump does not work then what should i priory

Need more information to solve your problem.

Does the pump come on (do you hear it?) but no water comes out when you make coffee?

When you select Hot Water and open the steam valve, does the pump run and does water come out the steam valve?

If you hear the pump running but no water is coming out - then it could either be that the pump needs to be primed. In that case you would select Hot Water and open the steam valve all the way and let water run out the wand for a minute or two.

If the steam wand delivers water but you don't get any water when you brew coffee, then either the coffee is ground so fine that the water cannot go through the coffee grinds OR the filter disc may be plugged up. Try grinding coarser and try removing the filter disc and cleaning it with a toothbrush - hold the disc to the light and verify that you can see through all the tiny holes.

If it pumps water for coffee but you don't get water out the steam pipe, then the steam wand may be plugged with hardened milk - in that case remove the plastic frother and soak it and clean it. Also use a bent paperclip to clean the hole in the end of the chrome steam pipe.

If the pump doesn't run at all and you don't hear any pump noises ever - then either the pump has failed or has a loose wire.

Keep getting ventilate message - won't ventilate and cannot operate steam or grinder w/ ventilate message

Try this run the hot water cycle for a few seconds, it that works, try steaming if you get the message again clear it by running the hot water cycle and then go to steaming, this time push in on the knob after you open it, it that works, then the tap rod or the valve assembly needs to be replaced.

Steamer working only intermittendly

Hi
Have you tried to descale your machine. Remember to use the correct descaling powder and make sure that it is totally dissolved before running the descale program. In the menu, make sure that your water hardness is set on 4. descale more often than not enough.

No water ever makes it through the pump

I just got mine working again. There was scale in the outlet port for the coffee basket.
Try cleaning by running through a solution of CLR and water (1 to 4 parts) and keep running until the blockage dissolves and flow is restored. Then run another solution again just to clean it for good.

MAKE SURE TO RINSE OUT THE RESERVIOUR VERY WELL. Should run clear without foam after about a gallon of clean water.

No water ever makes it through the pump

You have to prime the pump.. Hit the water button and open the steam knob.

If no water goes through the steam wand I would check for a clogged water line.
