ensure that the air vents are clear and are not blocked. if you can get a can of air duster then unplug it the spray it in the vents, to clear out the dust, i suspect you may get a cloud of dust.DO NOT be tempted to stick anything in the vents as you will either blow yourself up or damage it. when you are placing it somewhere to use it ensure it is in a well vented space.

if the image is black but the light is still on, it's having trouble holding on the the resolution. reset the settings to factory default and make sure the resolution matches. if the lamp goes out too, replace the ballast.
if the fans don't even come on, the power supply is bad. if the fans do but nothing else, the colorwheel is bad. either way, unfortunately, you can't get parts for these anymore (unless you find one on ebay).
if the fans are running too slow, it'll shut down. it needs the fans to run at a certain speed to get enough cfms to ensure proper cooldown. if one is lagging, the lamp or power supply may not cool enough and cause damage. find out which one.
reset the settings to factory default. if that doesn't work, the lamp may not have enough power to stay on. if the lamp doesn't have many hours on it, it's the ballast.
