If it is a USB external drive it should be recognized by your laptop, it worked for my dell floppy drive from xp to win 7 64bit, if it does not you should download the winxp driver and use it to install in win 7 when it does not recognizes the drive.

-select have drivers
-select downloaded drivers

it would give you an error of pop up saying drivers are not "signed" just go ahead a accept that and it should work.

You usually need 5 volts and 12 volts, DC. OR if it is only a single input, then usually 12V DC

is it set up by usb or serial port. if usb try unpluggung it and restarting computer then plug it in. you might want to go to manufacturs website and see if they are updates for the drivers

As I understand it the computer recognizes the floppy drive.

Can you read other discs, write to them etc? If not drive is bad

Try unplugging computer power cable for 10 minutes, if computer is a laptop also remove battery for 10 mins, so to cut power to computer, this will solve problems caused by electrostatic charges on computer usb.
If it still does not work, than it means that windows drivers for usb are not working properly, in this case you will have to reinstall the system.

i suggest that your hard drive is comatose, from a severe office concussion. Take it to the emergency computer service dude nearby, and hope, cross your fingers, that the data is recoverable.
