I have a Samsung OTR Microwave, Model# ME179KFETSR, recently removed for remodeling and when it was reinstalled, one of the mounting bolts causes the internal convection fan to turn on by itself. If I remove the bolt, the fan turns off. If I tilt the bolt to one side the fan turns on, tilt it to the other side and it turns off again. What can be the cause to this?

There is a Web site dedicated to this issue. I am aware of a suit involving other older models.
You have a shorting
membrane keypad.
If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by
itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.
So until it is repaired,
please leave it unplugged or leave the door
open when it's not in use, and of course one should never leave a microwave unattended while cooking.
That rule is even more important in this case.
On
this model, the membrane keypad is not available as a separate part, so
you would have to order the control panel frame assembly which comes
with a new keypad.
It's actually a pretty easy do it yourself job.
At our Web site, we have a video
available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.
Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your
circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of
disassembly.
The part number to order is WB07X11056 and you can get it here for $130.51 plus shipping.
(That compares to $189.75 direct form GE)

In a normal installation, there is a plate that mounts to the wall and bolts come down through the cabinet. Once the bolts are removed from the cabinet above mic, the mic should hindge forward. It takes two people to handle. How ever, in some cases an installation guy will add screws into the side of the unit. So look for some screws to the right and left of mic. Good luck!
