My Garmin 305 shuts off when I pause during a run. If I stop mid-run and pause my Garmin THEN hit start to continue it shuts off instantly. Is this fixable?

Hello,

Try resetting the unit by pressing the "Mode"(reset/lap) and "Power" buttons at the same time.
Also, be sure that the unit has the latest update.
Reloading the latest update will resolve most issues.
download the latest version of WebUpdater software

Cannot save direcctions to my gharmin 260w

Unfortunately the Garmin Nuvi 260W lacks the capability to save a route. If you are looking for a unit with great Trip Planning (route saving) features, the new Garmin Nuvi 3790T is a great option. I am currently using one and I love it.

Cheers

THE GARMIN SHOWS LOW BATTERY OR SHUTS OFF DURING A TRIP.

The battery has probably come to the end of it's life; your unit will probably be around two years old now so that's to be expected. If you know another owner you might want to try your unit in their power cradle first or to connect your unit directly to your pc via the usb cable first: either way you'll be able to confirm that it is the battery and not the vehicle charging lead.

If it is the battery then replace it as shown here. There are a number of suppliers offering compatible replacement batteries. Note that if your unit has outdated maps, traffic alerts, and speed camera alerts then it might be cheaper to replace the entire unit.

Screen goes blank after locating sattilites.

Accordingto Garmin, this problem can be fixed by disabling the WAAS feature in teh set up menu. There is an incompatibility between the old Garmin software and latest WAAS upgrades. Later software from Garmin is supposed to fix this problem.

Unit shut down

I have run into the same problem and it may be related to the WAAS (Wide Area Augmentation System) feature. Try disabling this feature (under MAIN MENU / Setup). I used this receiver overseas (Asia and Europe) last year for 35 days straight with no problems. During this time WAAS was disabled as none of these satellites are visible overseas. The problem occurred intermittently prior to the overseas trip, and has reoccurred after returning. I was running into the same problem this past weekend and noticed the screen blanking out (with the vertical line) shortly after differential corrections were applied to the GPS signals. I disabled the WAAS and let the receiver run for over an hour. The problem did not return. Hope this helps.

Auto shut to work

This function is kind of confusing. It will not shut the player down while music is playing. It's just basically a battery-saving function. Say you leave your player on and not playing. After set amount of minutes it'll shut off to save battery life, but not if it's playing music. Odd function, eh?

(btw, this is what i've found to be the function and may not be 100% right.)

Garmin GPS 45

It is probably one of the following:
1)Old Software
In 1999 the GPS satellites were reset and the new almanac data had to be loaded into the GPS 45 for it to continue to work. It was not uncommon for that model to quicly kill a set of batteries when it is having difficulty acquiring, which would cause it to shut down in order to save the batteries for its internal memory.

I just did a quick search of the Garmin website and it appears they no longer support that model. If you go to their support page and send a request for a software update they can probably e mail it to you. The update is free but to down load it, you need a PC interface cable (RS232 serial port connector) Part Number: 010-10141-00 Suggested Retail Price: $ 38.09.

2)Bad antenna
To rule this one out, borrow an antenna from another Garmin 45 or Garmin 48, or plug the unit into an external antenna and see if the unit still shuts down. The drawback to this method is that you can buy a new GPS that is superior to the one you have for about the same price as an external antenna.

3)Bad batteries
If your batteries are low, the unit will automatically shut off to protect its internal memory. I tried a lot of different batteries in my 45 and I found that Eveready alkaline batteries worked best. Rechargeable nicad batteries don't work very well because they fool the battery meter. Newer models have a setting to specify that you are using rechargeable batteries.

Ultimately the best advice I can give you is buy a new GPS. For less than $150 you can buy a new model that is more accurate, more reliable, stores more waypoints, has a better display, is easier to use, and gives you more valuable information.

LCD Screen Faded Out

saw this on a different forum.

I apologize for the inconvenience. After further research with our engineers, a problem has been discovered on your C550. A file has been created to stop the unit from turning off and locking up. Please download the new file from your computer to the unit. The file is attached to this email along with instructions on how to get the file into the unit.

The following procedure will update the software in your C550 series and correct the power issue you are experiencing with your Garmin C550 series

1.) Let the Garmin sit without power for at least 24-48 hours.

2.) Plug the C5xx series into the your computer (using a USB port in the back of the computer) with the cable provided with the unit.

3.) After removing the faceplate on the front of the Garmin press and release the reset button. At this time the C550 series will reset and power on.

4.) Save the attached file included in e-mail from Garmin Product Support. Save this file to the desk top on your computer. Note: This will make it easy to find.

5.) Open the My Computer window (by accessing the start menu on the bottom left of your computer screen).

6.) Locate and open the Garmin Mass Storage device.

7.) Locate the Garmin folder and open.

8.) Open the remoteSW folder.

9.) Copy the file that you have saved to the desktop and paste it into the remoteSW folder you have just opened. Make sure that none of the files contained within the remoteSW folder is highlighted, or you will not be able to save the new file.

10.) A message window will pop up asking you to confirm that you want to replace the file; Select Yes.

11.) Disconnect the C550 series from the USB cable and let the unit restart. A message will appear on the screen stating "Updating PLD Software".

Note: the screen will fade out and go blank during this process. Do not be alarmed, this is part of the update procedure, and the screen will return to normal within seconds.

Garmin 330 battery

"my garmin c330 will not charge in the car while traveling?it has a full charge when i head out but after 4 hours it shows low battery,i was thinking the gps was supose to charge with the car adapter plug in.my will not charge."

There is a problem with the cable or the cigarette lighter power supply. If the cigarette is working then when you start the car the Garmin should turn on and when you turn off the engine the Garmin should shut down. If you are manually turn the unit on/off then it is not running off the cigarette lighter power supply. Check to make sure there is power coming from the cigarette lighter.
