have the thermostats replaced
and whole system checked for freon leaks

Keep the thermostat in 4'O clock position. Check the thermostat is cutting properly. If not replace it.

this link may help. go to your homedepot and get a stainless steel cleaner. depending how deep the scuffs it might take it out

Need to check and see if the element is heating up when it goes into defrost. If the thermostat is bad it will not go into defrost. I purchased a new heating element for my GE and it came with the element and thermostat together. Also make sure the fan is running in the freezer this moves the heat through the coil as well as the cold temp when in freeze mode.

if its just stoped dead it could be a number of things
1 the thermostat give up working,,,most likley!!!!
2 the compresor give up working,,,not very likley
3 its lost its gas and needs a regas,,,pigs fly?
try a new thermostat first,,,

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it.
