Tv has what sounds like a humming noise by where the bulb is

is the tv still coming on, if not its the bulb is broke, do not touch the bulb it damages it

The humming noise is most likely coming from the power supply.

If the unit is worth the repair cost ( Over $100.00 ) you should have it repaired.

If not, deal with the noise until it goes out.

It sounds like feedback hum. Most likely caused by the settings on your computer. Try adjusting all the sound settings. Especially record settings.

When the color wheel starts to go there is a high pitched whinning sound, the humming could be from the light engine or ballast, which may or may not be related to the color wheel. I would have to see it and test things for a correct diagnoses, but it does at least sound like a color wheel in the last moments of its life

My tv just came on by itself and now just keeps going back and forth from off to on over and over

This does sound like a color wheel. To my knowlege, Toshiba does not sell the Color Wheel seporately. In short, you have to replace the Opical Block. The cost of this is very exspensive and Toshiba may not sell it to you. You may have to go through a Toshiba Service facility to obtain it. Check prices of new LCD sets before investing the money.

replaced the light engine. yhis set is probably not cost affective to fix.

The color wheel is the most common problem in DLPs that cause noise. To determine the cause: Turn the set off. If the noise goes away after about five seconds, then, the problem is the color wheel. If the noise goes away one to two minutes after shut off, then, the problem is a fan. I sounds like a bad filter in the sudio supply circuit finally took out the sound output chip or the power supply that controls the sound circuit. its a soliud state set and there are no user replaceable parts inside this set.
