Dell Inspiron 1720 reboots while in use very frequently

I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 that reboots while in use very frequently. Some times but not usually you will also get a blue screen doing a physical memory dump or bad spooler caller (or something like that). I have Vista. The problem started 3 months after we received it. Tried the factory setting reset but did not help. Dell has not successfully resolved this. I use the McAfee security protection you get free with Comcast.

Suggestions would be appreciated.

Sounds like an issue with power supply and/or malfunction with inner hardware. Has it turned off while plugged in to power source?

Hi,

Try running these scans in Safe Mode.

Keep pressing F8 on startup, and choose 'Safe Mode' from the list that appears.

If you still find it locking up during scans, you may have a hardware problem that needs fixing.

Inspiron 1720 reboots randomly. tried reseating ram and cant find solution. the reboot happens usually when i try to use programs and just shuts down and restarts like nothing happened. help is very...

most likely related to the blue screen issues. a possible reinstall of the OS may be needed. To check if it is blue screen related, restart the computer, press F8 when system restarts, then select the option to disable auto-restart option on the advanced options menu and press Enter. Next time you use the system, see if it will still auto-restart or if you'll get a blue screen. If there is an error, a system rstore or OS repair or reinstall may also be needed.

My dell inspiron 1720 keeps rebooting. Pressed

Yes. You'll need to replace the hard drive with that error code.

No matter you can't use that computer without replacing the hard drive.

If you have a warranty for the computer contact tech support for your dell, give them the error code you have
and they will immediately replace your hard drive.

Re seating the hard drive won't fix it.

Hope this helps!

Dell inspiron 1720 reboots randomly

there are several reasons why a pc restarts: 1. there might be a virus that causes this, thry to scan your computer using the updated anti virus. 2. your power supply might be faulty, if your pc frequently restarts the 12volts supply is having a problem, you need to replace the power supply. 3. operating system error, you need to repair your OS. what i have suspected from the problem you relayed is that your power supply, you need to replace this.
