    This is NOT a fix, but a possible work around. What happens when you use caps lock (both with and without shift)?

Boot from the install DVD. Go into Utilities. Go into Reset Password. Don't reset any passwords, just get into one of the screens where it lets you type things into a field. If the lower-case o doesn't work here, you have a keyboard hardware problem If it does:
Reboot normally, go into System Preferences / Accounts, and define a new temporary user account. Log out and log in as that user. See if the lower-case O works. If it does, you likely have a bad setting for keyboard type in System Preferences / International in your main user account.

The lower caSe S on my keyboard doeS not work. I have inStalled a new keyboard but Still have the Same problem

Check in your control panel and make all changes back to default :S or do in this way which I had similar problem except would not type capital letter "A" when you hit shift+A. My kids were playing with my laptop and had been playing with Speech function. System Preferences>System>Speech> Text to Speech; de-selected "Speak selected text when the key is pressed". Works fine now.

My upper case S KEY WILLL only work if I have cap locks on. can you help me? ' Im using the MX5500 keyboard. thank you. Greg

Have you tried cleaning the keyboard, especially blowing it out with compressed air. Have you tried to use both shift button to see whether or not the problem is isolated to one shift button or both.Have you tried other letter with the same shift button that the letter "s" is having problems with. If this is islolated to just the letter "s" with the shift buttons then more than likely you will just have to use caps lock or buy another keyboard.

Keyboard functions changed

Sounds much like the shift key (on the right of the keyboard obviously) has got stuck. Or possibly your cat has managed to turn on the marvel that is StickyKeys.

My shift key will not work for all letters, forcing me to use caps lock by pressing it before typing the letter and immediately after typing the letter. any suggestions?

This can be either a bad keyboard or a bad system board. There's no way to tell without swapping out the keyboard. Laptop keyboards aren't hard to replace and cost about $50-60. If that does not resolve the problem, learn to live with it because a replacing the system board generally isn't worth the cost unless you have it covered under warranty.

How do i insert a bracket on my acer laptop i tried holding down my shift key than hitting the bracket i would like but it will not work is there a different key that you are suppose to use

have you tried pressing all of the shift keys on your keyboard and pressing the bracket key? are you sure that the key is working properly? try using an external keyboard if you have and try if you can put brackets. if you can, then there has got to be a problem with your keyboard. You can do a shortcut with the bracket.

for ( " { " )
hold alt and press 123

for ( " } " )
hold alt and press 125

pm me if it works on your system.
