How do I tighten the brakes on a new Troy Bilt Pony lawn mower. Just does not have braking power going down hill.
There is an adjusing nut for thiit does have a brake pad that can be replaced. It also has an adjuster. It is at the rear of the tractor above the axle. There is a rod, a spring, and two ajusting nuts. With the parking brake engaged, the spring should be compressed to 1-9/16". If not, use the adjusting nuts to get to that measurement. Note. One nut is the adjuster and the other is a lock nut. According to the manual the tractor should stop within 6 feet. The owner's manual doesn't go into changing the brake pad. It says to take it to the dealer. I just looked at my tractor and the spring and adjusting nuts are on the right side of the tractor, look just forward of the right rear wheel and you will see it. With the parking brake on you will also see the nuts. You can also go to searspartsdirect.com, type in your model number and see a blow up of the brakes and part numbers.s.Clockwise to tighten,
