Good afternoon, nooks!
You an try taking it down to barebones and see what happens.

By bare bones, I mean to disassemble to the point that you only have the power supply, motherboard, and the display hooked up. At this point, if it doesn't come up farther than it does at present, you more than likely have a bad motherboard.

If it does show signs of life, start reconnecting one item at a time, (memory first) and try to power up after replacing each item or connector. If you replace/reconnect something and it no longer does anything, you have just located the part that is bringing your system down.

Using this approach, I have seen memory cards, hard disk drives, keyboards, mice, touchpads, floppies, cd readers all cause this type of problem.

Problem with emachine m5124 startup

Take the battery out and unplug the power cord. Press down the power button continuously for a solid 30 seconds without stopping. This drains all the power out of the circuits and resets whatever invalid state your computer is in.

Now, leave the battery out but plug in the AC and turn on the laptop. If it works, turn it off again and insert the battery. All should be well.

Emachine shut down

No, it's just the USB ports that are still being powered.
Totally normal in most new computers. Same thing with the PS2 ports.
There are jumpers on the motherboard that can change this if you really want. It's designed like that to keep things like you have powered for when you do turn it on and need them.

Emachines wont boot

Bad capacitor(s) on the motherboard can cause this problem, corrupted BIOS maybe... try flashing BIOS.
Probably the CPU if your not getting any error code beeps on startup.. NO Processor for the BIOS instructions thus no Beeps !
