Check the hard drive might be defect or loose from the hard drive connector. If the hard drive is detected in BIOS probably the hard drive is out of order

Operating system not found

The error PXE-E61: Media test failure usually means the hard disk has failed or the hard disk needs re-seating or the disk controller is faulty. First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

Operating system not found

It seems that either the OS is corrupt on your system or the Hard Disk Drive is not getting detected.

To confirm if the hard disk drive is detected you need to go into the BIOS and check if it shows the Drive present.

Just check if the Drive is present in BIOS. If you find the Drive in BIOS You can try to re-install the Operating system using the OS disk.

On start up my lg x120, (s/n: 003msfb0044355)" displays operating system not found" it wont go any further. What do i need to do?

This type of message indicates that the BIOS is unable to detect an operating system. What may cause this condition can be a loose hard drive, a bad data cable, bad hard drive, bad motherboard storage controller, malware, virus, or incorrect BIOS setting.

To troubleshoot, start by entering the BIOS and see if the BIOS detects your hard drive. If it is detected then make sure it is set as the 1st boot priority item. If it is not detected, then open up your laptop to inspect the wiring of the hard drive. Make sure it is firmly seated into the motherboard connector (Don't forget to have the laptop/pc powered off before opening the machine).

Next, remove the hard drive from the laptop and connect it to a motherboard from a desktop to see if it spins and loads the operating system. If it does work, then the hard drive is ok and the motherboard on the laptop is damaged.

You can also use a functional hard drive to install on the pc/laptop to rule out a bad motherboard.

If all of these don't work, you will need to reinstall your operating system because malware has damaged your operating system.

Having dropped my Samsung R530 (nothing obviously broken), when I try to stsrt it it is coming up with the message:- "Boot From AHCI CD ROM: Operating System not found" Any ideas?

Hi tony prother,

"Boot From AHCI CD ROM: Operating System not found" error is because the system is booting the CDROM of the system and its not detecting an installed Operating System. You need to check if the system still detects the Hard Drive of your laptop on the Bios page. To go to BIOS reboot the computer and tap F2 on the system and on the bios page check if the hard drive is detected then go to then BOOT Tab select the hard drive as the first boot priority and reboot the system.

If the hard drive is not detected it might be damage, you can get intouch to a local tech to check and backup the files.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I tried to format my Dell laptop but it display internal hard drive not found

Go to the BIOS configuration and see it the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn,t detect the hard drive then the hard drive coulf be faulty.
Another way to check the hard drive. Remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and then connect this to a computer's USB port. If this computer does not detect it as and external storage device, then the hard drive is faulty.
To get your laptop operational again, insertl a new hard drive and install Windows on this hard drive, together with the laptop's device drivers and your programs.

No operating system found

This is caused by :-
1. Your hard disk has failed.
2. Your BIOS settings for the hard drive has been altered
3. Your hard drive has been wiped or someone or a virus program that has deleted critical files.

Go into your BIOS setup to check the hard disk settings, if possible see if it will auto detect the hard drive.

Also boot up with a DOS disk run FDISK to see if you can detect a hard disk, partitions etc.

If the hard disk appears OK you may be able to do a disk repair, most likely you would need to re-install the operating system and the laptop drivers for video, audio, LAN, modem etc.

Ibm thinkpad 390

This issue showed that the harddrive is not found. Try to fixed hardware connecting from harddrive and the board.
did you see hard drive detected in the bios at start? if your are sure that the connection cable is firmly fixed and the hard drive still not detected by the bios. so there is a problem with your harddrive. you should/may replace that.On the other hand if in case your hard drive is detected and still thesame problem encountered. then, you should reinstall your operating system by inserting the original operating system recovery/ windows bootable installation disc to refresh the state of your system.

any problem srising this solution please notify me.
