I have the exact same problem with my VivCam 3735. Here's how I solved it. Tape it ! Yeah but what do you use when you need to retape again and again ? Velcro !
For $3.59 at Home Depot you can buy 2 sets of 4" X 2" Velcro pads that have glued tape backs. I placed three small 1/2" by about 1" pieces of the eye hook half of the Velcro on the front of the camer body, on the battery door just inside the " > " open indicator mark, and the third on the back of the camera body just covering the name"Vivitar" I then cut two long strips of the fuzz hookhalf of the Velcro and placed them back to back so the glued sides are together. This glue is very strong so do this carefully ! Now use the long piece to hold the door shut and in the closed position wraping it around while pressing the door closed firmly.
Wah La ! now you can open and reclose the battery door over and over again.

My Vivitar Vivicam 5399 is refusing to turn on. It has worked perfectly up until a couple of weeks ago, when it started to turn off at random moments, usually soon after I had turned it on. Now, it doesn't...

Have you tried to see if the battery door is completely shut? This is usually the problem with many digital cameras with batteries. Clean the battery door and where the battery touches the metal of the door. Check to see if the door is completely flush with the camera body when you close it. I know for a fact that Vivitar cameras **** the juice out of batteries fairly quickly also. If you have the USB-cord provided with the camera, plug it into your computer and see if that holds a charge to your camera. If all else fails, call up Vivitar for further inquiry, your battery may be dead.
Good luck!

Battery door broken

The best is to piece up the broken parts and GLUE them using good super glues available in the market. If the broken pieces are beyond repair then the door must be sourced from Vivitar.
If an old one can be found from any dealer it will be worth a try.

My son got a vivitar vs18b camera. The packaging says Mac compatible but when we put the image zone disk in nothing happens. I've tried clicking on the 2 files after opening the disk icon and nothing...

Try to get your money back for the camera. If not, go buy your son a better camera. Vivitar has no drivers for anything. Only what comes with the camera (WinXP only). Plus the viewfinder is junk, and the camera loses all store pictures when the batteries die or are removed. My son got one of these for Christmas, and I have never seen a worse piece of junk.

The battery door has broke, it is just the cover and not the hinge

You can get a new door from the manufacturer's website for a few dollars. It is a simple replacement, involving a few screws to loosen the case in the door area.

My camera

Hello shrnj113:

Which door are you talking about?
If it is the lens slide cover, then it needs repair.
If it is the battery cover, then you need repair and parts.

Take care,

Repair

I had the same problem and took it into the dealer who firmly taped the battery door shut to get battery contact and told me that a new door would cost more than a new camera. It worked!
