If you had your water cut off to the ice maker and didn't have the ice maker turned off, it was your ice maker. You turn it off by lifting the wire arm and leaving it in the up position.

I meant to add, if you put your ice maker back in the wire is up in the off position and humming does not start back. You will need to either check a couple pieces inside the ice maker or replace the ice maker. If you would like me to wall you through checking the parts, I'll be glade to help. Just respond back and we will go through them. If you want me to wall you through, you will need a ohm meter handy to check continuity

Rival 8420 : Electric Ice Cream Maker. The motor only hums.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from Cars and Trucks category.

Humming normally means the start / run capacitor on the motor has failed and needs replacing.

Or something is jammed, but unlikely.

Could some please post how to remover the ice maker from my kitchen aid model ktrc 19 m refrig thank you

Look right above the icemaker part that forms the cubes. Its usually brown in color, Just above it are 2 extensions of that brown part that has 2 screws going into the left side of the freezer, Remove the 2 screws and the unit comes out. The power plug for it is just to the back bottom of the ice maker. If you can see it you can probably just unplug it to stop the noise.

I get a loud grinding noise from my ice maker. What can make that noise?

Hi,

Thank you for your information you provided, could the noise be described as a clicking or ticking noise? The reason I ask is I have heard for this to be a motor driven harvest and the heating within the ice maker is not engaging to release the ice, so the unit continues to push the ice out causing the gear to jump a tooth. If this is the case the only fix is replacing the ice maker to fix the issue. Other possible cause of grinding is the water in not entering the ice maker (hollow ice cubes) so the water is accumulating around the fan motor and freezing up. As the fan turns on the grinding is the fan motor cutting away at the ice. Gain access to the fan motor and check for ice around the fan, if its there remove that ice. The cause is that the water is not getting into the ice maker and causing this issue. Good Luck, I hope this helps.

Avanti 1008W

To manually defrost just unplug unit from power outlet for 12 hours,it will automatically defrost. But if these problem is occurring again n again then issue is with defrost assembly parts, the defrost timer, the thermostat and temp sensor in freezer section causing the problem.

Just bought a used westinghouse RJ275M fridge. It seems to work fine except for the noise - it has a low hum and rattling noise.

It can be compressor fan noise, may be motor getting overheated and causing noise. It has to be inspected.

GSs 22 wg refrigerator humming noise from freezer. Tech came and replaced defroster heater element but humming remains. What is the likely cause of this? It comes and goes but is mostly on. Fridge...

most likely it's coming from the evap fan motor or the ice maker, try shutting the ice maker off first to see if that's the problem,if not then i'd go with the fan motor, you can try opening the freezer door, this usually turns the fan on,then push in the door switch button and see if the fan stops blowing and if the noise stops too.hope this helps you out.

Noise on the ice maker

I think you are having the same issue that I am having. My noise is being caused due to ice build up around the fan inside the freezer. There is a switch when you open the door that causes the fan to shut off, hence the reason the noise stops when you open the door.

I pulled the cover (just below the ice maker) and removed the ice that had built up. Only problem is that after three days the noise is back. I think there may be a bigger problem that is causing the ice to build up around the fan.

Frigidaire side-by-side model # FRS26H5ASB4 making humming or buzzing noise

I had the same problem. I found the buzzing noise was caused by ice build up around the fan motor inside the freezer. I believe water must have leaked down around the fan during a defrost cycle. I removed the ice maker, the ice cube bin and ice dispenser auger motor. It sounds complicated, but it isn't too bad. The ice maker and auger are connected with quick connect plugs. So just unplug, remove the screws and remove them from the freezer. You will need to remove several other screws as well, I believe 11 in total as well as the top freezer rack. This will give you access to the white aluminum panel that runs from the top of the freezer to about halfway down the back of the freezer. After you remove the aluminum panel you will see the fan about half way down the freezer. I found a lot of ice around my fan. The fan blades were hitting the ice causing the buzz. Remove the ice and the buzzing is gone. It took me an hour to complete this repair. I hope this helps.
