These drills are cheaply made and are fairly cheap.
I asked the store where I bought mine and he said he would get me a new battery. He wanted thirty four dollars for the battery and I only paid forty bucks for the whole drill a year ago.
I learned something
I bought a Ryoby at 149 dollars and came with two batteries. I keep a battery plugged in all the time and switch them once every two or three weeks. I bought this one three years ago and it is working like it was three years ago. I just leave it plugged in all the time. The cheap B and D won't last very long.
The cordless drills I have purchased even good ones like Ryobi lasted about three years The drills will work good but the batteries go dead after a while. My Ryobi I keep one battery charging in my charger all the time but before you do this check your manual to make sure its ok. I change batteries every two weeks when not in use all the time. I never have a run down battery that way.
I would not say they are not defected, but I think they are not getting fully charged. I have the same problem with my battery once I have used it all day and the red light comes on from the fuel gauge. I have the P104 battery. I would return your charger and try to charge them on the new one first. If you have the same trouble, then return the batteries for new ones.
How long have these 2 batteries been standing idle without being charged? Lithium ion batteries can still discharge if left for too long. There is a voltage detector which detects whether the cells are too far discharged to be safely charged again and if that occurs the circuit is broken and the batteries will be deffective in the charger. I have had the same problem with these and other LI batteries. Answer is replace the batteries and then make sure they are given a quick charge on a regular basis. However common advice seems to be that LI's should not be kept fully charged, but just partially charged until needed, then charge them for use, especially if usage is sporadic
does the charger check out? use a volt ohm meter to check the chargers output. when you charge all four batteries us the meter to check the batteries charge. this should give you an idea where the problem is.
Batteries start deteriorating the day they are made. I have three drills exactly like yours. I have found the batteries last longer if they are exercised and I fould that even then, batteries don't last much past the 2 1/2 - 3 year point. Sadly, it is cheaper to purchase a new drill kit that has a new drill, a new light and two new batteries than it is to buy new batteries.
Whats the answer? Exercise your batteries ... don't store them on the charger ... let them run down once in a while then charge them up again.
After 3 years you probably can't get any kind of warranty support but you may be able to repair the charger or buy a universal one. www.centurytool.net sells parts for battery chargers....if you know where the drill was purchased, like sears, you may be able to take it there and they can either send it in for repairs or point you in the right directions. Most cordless drill batteries will go bad if they are not charged regularly so you may have to replace them also. Good luck!
