Emachine EL 1200 06w Restore ???

Hello!

Just wondering if there is a way out of this problem. I have a computer sitting here and no restore CDs. I've heard that there is a bootup keypress that will lead to a system restore, using restore files on a partition of the HD.

Again, I don't have the cds.

Tried to install XP using a regular XP Home disk, but the drivers I downloaded from Emachines for this model don't want to work! Could this be because of differences with XP HOme and XP Home "Nettops"?

Thank you,

Tim

I have no idea about the difference between XP Home and "Nettops", lol! But, I can help you restore :)

Reboot your PC, when the very first screen comes up (the manufacturer's screen, the one before the Windows splash) press and hold F8 (or tap repeatedly). This will take you to a boot-options menu. Choose "Boot in Safe Mode", allow windows to load.

When it is finished loading, you may be given an automatic choice of either running System Restore, or finish loading in Safe Mode. Choose System Restore, and restore to a date (on the little calander) sometime before your issues came up.

If you are not prompted automatically, and instead it loads to the desktop, go to Start Button ---> Help and Support ---> and under "Pick a Task" choose "Undo changes to your computer with System Restore". Again, pick a date and let 'er rip!

(you can also find it in Start Button ---> Programs ---> Accessories ---> System Tools ---> System Restore)

*****If you are not having problems with your boot, and simply want to restore, you can skip the F8 way and just go straight to restore from your normal desktop!

Whew! Hope some of this helps!

If you need any further assistance, please feel free to post a comment to this post and I will be glad to help!

If you don't see a message like "press F11 for system restore" then you're mostly out of luck with the restore partition. Since you already reinstalled XP using a regular disk (yes, that works just fine), then you are probably using the wrong drivers from E-Machine.
I've done the same thing and it works just fine.
If worst comes to worst, you can order restore CDs from the company.

I tried to restore my Acer T180 and installed my restore disk. Unfortunately, they were the wrong disks. They were from my eMachine. They worked but now I can't register my Windows operating system. If...

Yes, when you use the actual discs that came with the computer you computer will be restored to normal. These Operating systems are called BIOS locked CDs, if they detect the right brand BIOS / motherboard they will install the OEM edition of the OS, hence you need not activate it or it will get activated properly.

I haved a Emachine EL 1300G-01W that has crashed

Power it down, pull the power lead out, remove the cover from the base and check that all the leads (to the hard drive and the motherboard) are seated correctly - by physically pushing them in. Then push and hold the power button on the front for 10 seconds. Then replace the cover and power lead and try starting it up.

Can not get pass set up, place where you name the computer, have run restore cd

Hello there , let put things in order:
1) That is is your PC DISC? RESTORE CD?
2) If so, just run the Restore CDs, and use DESTRUCTIVE FORMAT/ and restore the OS from CDs and SYSTEM PARTITION. **
it is supose to work.
other than this, may be a defective hard disk, use warranty, or have to replace that hard drive. ** be sure you got a full recovery CDS.

Ok,

first - You will delete everything on your harddrive with this method.

If possible- scan your disk for viruses.

get to a C prompt.

In most programs you will have an option to boot to C: or even C:>Windows
If you do not end up in C: you can get there by typing
c: and enter

MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN C:

-i.e. not the system drive

CHKDSK - enter

You have a large harddrive - this will take time.

We are checking to see if your hardrive is broken.

if the harddrive is ok

FORMAT YOUR DRIVE- this will take time.

Type FORMAT and hit enter

WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU WILL LOSE EVERYTHING!!!!!

Insert your system disk and follow the instructions provided by the manufacture
