Could be over heating let it cool meaning complete shut off unpluged 20 mins for all heat to removed. Then check how long it stays on. If it last more than a few mins it is over heating. You need to try to get all dust out of it and try it again. If this time the link is lost after a few mins or hours its was over heating. Also at this point it could be a bad component over heting and a new router is need.
This could be one of many problems good luck.

Hi leftella, First of all, I would like to ask you few questions. 1.Who is your ISP(Internet service provider) like verizon, Bell, Comcast? 2.How many ports you see at the back of the Modem?like WAN, Ethernet, LAN, DSL, Data? 3.How many ports you see at the back of the Router?like Internet,Ethernet,WAN, LAN? 4.What is the make and model of the laptop with which you want to go wireless?
To setup the router you don't need any CD, just need to connect the Modem to router and router to your computer with hard wire Initially and then after setup, you can go wireless.

If you have forgotten your LinkSys router password, the easiest thing to do is to reset your router to the factory default settings.
To restore the router configuration to factory defaults, hold the reset button on the unit for 30 seconds.
Once your router is hard reset, you will need to login and configure it again.
To reconfigure your LinkSys, connect a PC to one of it'sEthernet ports, load a web browser, and go to the URLhttp://192.168.1.1/. This will take you to a popup box which asks you to enter a username and password to login to your router.
LinkSys Default Password
On older LinkSys routers, the default username is blank and the default password is "admin." While newer models, both the default username and the default password are set to "admin."
Once you go past the login screen, you should be able to reconfigure the LinkSys router.
Here are some of LinkSys Router models along with its Default usernames:

Linksys EtherFast Cable/DSL Ethernet routers: Administrator
Linksys WRT54G, BEFW11S4: admin
Linksys Comcast routers: comcast
All other Linksys routers: {none}
Here are some of LinkSys Router models along with its Default passwords:
Linksys Comcast routers: 1234
Linksys BEFW11S4: {none}
All other Linksys routers: admin
For those [none] username/password entries listed above, no name or password is required. Just skip or press the Enter/Return key when prompted for those settings.

Forget my password

To reset the Linksys back to the default settings - Press and hold the pinhole RESET button at the back of therouter with the power ON for 20 secs. then release the RESET button.
To connect to your wireless router, the router's wireless settings needs to beconfigured with the SSID, encryption etc. and also the wireless cards in allthe laptops/computers needs to be configured with these router's wirelesssettings. Then the laptops/desktop computers can communicate with your wirelessrouter.
Connect a LAN cable from the Linksys to the LAN port on your computer.
Open a browser and enter the Linksys configuration URL
http://192.168.1.1
The default login = admin
The default PW = admin
You can protect your router by changing the default PW (write it down and putit in a safe place)
Go to the wireless configuration and set up the SSID and WPA or WPA2encryption.
Apply these settings to the wireless card in your laptop/computer.

Connection

Hi Susie
With related to your particular issue it seems like that your broadband modem is not configured for the router. There are basically 2 types of connection. DSL and Cable modem. Verizon, ATT are DSL and comcast other providers give you a normal cable broadband connection. If its comcast make sure the cable from the comcast modem is going to the internet port in the linksys router and also make sure that there is a system connection the linksys router and the cable from the system goes to any of LAN 1, 2, 3 and 4 ports. Then reset your cable modem by using a pin and inserting to the reset hole in the modem. You could use the same step to reset your linksys router as well .If its a verizon or dsl connection you need to put normally your username and password in the router page. here is the link to how to configure linksys for your internet modem.
Here is a video as well on it?

Connecting to internet

Ok, cable (coax) comes in from wall and attaches to modem. Ethernet cable goes from modem to WAN Port of router. You may have to reboot both devices to ensure that your modem (internet service provider) assigns IP address to your router. If PC is close enough, attach new ethernet cable from one of the 4 ports on your router down to your PC's ethernet adapter. (where your modem used to plug into). Router will now assign an IP address to your PC and you should be able to access the www.

Good Luck and let me know if you have any more questions.

Ps3

Are you going to connect your PS3 wired to your router or wireless?
1. check first if ps3 is working behind rca modem.
2. then connect a pc directly to your linksys router
3. open configuration page of linksys by typing your gateway on your browser. (usually it is by default 192.168.1.1)
4. go to applications and gaming tab
5. you'll find there port forwarding..key in your number there
> i guess your numbers are like 88 and 3764 (something like that)
6. if your trying to connect your playstation wirelessly, you need to know your wireless security (if your router is secured).
> go to wireless tab and look for wireless security
> get your key
7. go back to playstation and try to view your wireless network
> connect and type in your key

Linksys 5-port Workgroup Hub

Hi Tman,

Here is a link to the Xbox ports. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/908874
In the firewall option, direct those ports to the IP of your Xbox. I don't have an xbox, but I would think there is someway to set a static IP on it. That way DHCP won't change your xbox ip when you reboot it. Some routers allow you to assign a specific IP to the xbox, but not sure about yours.
Visit this site, http://portforward.com/routers.htm It may have your router, and will tell you how to setup the ports for your xbox step by step.
