I turned on powershot then opened the battery

I turned on my powershot then opened the battery cover to take out the SD card without turning it off. The camera turned off with the lens still extended and won't turn back on. What do I do?

If you install fresh batteries, close the battery door the lens should retract. If it did not, make sure the batteries installed are properly. And don't do that again you will lose all pictures on the card and may ruin the card permenently.

I have put fresh batteries in my Canon Power Shot S1 camera and it still will not come on? Can you help me?

Contact failures may have occurred between the camera and the batteries.

Confirming that the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is securely closed

If the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] is not securely closed, the power of the camera may not turn on.

Close the [Memory Card / Battery Cover] securely, and then turn the power on.

Clean the battery terminals with a dry cotton swab that has a fine and soft tip, and then re-insert the batteries.

If your camera uses four AA-size alkaline batteries supplied with the camera, follow the procedure below. In addition to Alkaline batteries you may use optional nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries.

1. Be sure that the camera power is off.

2. Slide the battery cover lock in the direction of the arrow, and push the battery cover slightly forward. Then open the cover.

My canon powershot sd 1200 wont turn on i have recharged the battery. what else can i try?

Hi,
Check whether your batteries are actually making contact with the battery posts, and that these posts are clean. If not, bend the posts up/down a little, and maybe clean them with a little rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip. Or if that does'nt work our for you , if your camera uses Compact Flash, check to make sure all pins are present and aligned in the card slot (if bent, simply unbend/straighten them with a skinny "jewelers" screwdriver, then insert the flash card for final realignment).

Thank you !!

I have a canon powershot sx110is and when i turn it on it will not take any pictures but instead gives the message "memory card error." When I put it to the display mode it says the same message plus...

First see if the camera will work without the memory card installed. Then format the internal memory using the camera's setting as described in the manual.

Then turn OFF the camera and insert the sd card. Turn on and reformat the card too.

Make sure you have NEW batteries or sometimes things go flakey.

My Canon Powershot A560 memory card is locked and it is the camera doing it not the memory stick. When I turn on my camera I get an error message"memory card error" then when i press to view pictures it...

1

Turn the Canon Powershot A560 over so the bottom is facing up.
2

Locate the door on the bottom of the camera. The door is labeled "CARD/BATT. OPEN."

3

Place your thumb on the slider on the door. Push the slider up to unlock the door. Then, slide the door out to open it.
4

Find the SD card. Inside you will see four batteries and the tip of a small plastic disc. This plastic disc is the SD card.
5

Eject the sd digital memory card. To eject the card, gently push on it and then release the pressure. The SD card will pop out part way. Go ahead and pull out the card.
6

Turn the card so the writing is right-side up. On either the left or right side of the card, you will see a grove with a tiny plastic switch in it. If the switch is at the bottom of the groove, the SD card is locked.
7

Unlock the SD card. Using a fingernail, slide the switch to the top of the groove. The card is now unlocked.
8

Return the SD card to the camera. Place the card in the slot and push down until you hear a click. The card is now successfully reinstalled. Do not worry about inserting the card the wrong way, because it will only fit one way.

SD 1100

Hey ceedub,
According to the manufacturer if the lens won't retract back into the camera it is caused by the memory card slot/battery cover was opened when the power was on. If this is the case to fix this you should close the memory card slot/battery cover, and then turn the camera on and off. If this is not the cause there is most likely something obstructing the movement of the lens (i.e. sand), and I would try blowing compressed air into the side of the lens to try and dislodge whatever it is. If this doesn't work I would have the camera looked at by an authorized service technician. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Wont turn on

It may be the SD memory card causing the problem. I just bought a G7. When I turned it on without an SD card, no problem. I put it my old cheap SD card and it wont turn on. I take out the memory card and battery, then insert the Canon SD card and battery and turn it on, no problem.
Hope this helps someone.

SD Card Recognition

Perform the following procedures when your digital camera does not detect the SD card. 1. Restart the camera Turn the main power OFF, or open the battery cover or SD card/battery cover to remove the battery. Make sure the SD card is fully installed. Then, turn the main power ON, or insert a battery again and close the battery cover or SD card/battery cover until it latches. 2. Initialize the SD card Format the SD card with your camera. Formatting procedures varies depending on the camera model. See the Camera User Guide supplied with your camera for the instruction to format the SD card. When formatting the SD card, slide its tab upward to cancel write protection. It is impossible to format the SD card while it is write protected. 3. Check if your camera detects other SD cards (If you own multiple SD cards.) If your camera does not detect the SD card after performing the procedures 1 and 2, check if the camera detects other SD cards. If it does detect other SD cards, the SD card that wasn't detected may contain some problem.
