When you initially set up your ipod on one computer and then plug it into a different one, it will ask you if you wish to sync the songs with the new computer.
THIS WILL WIPE OFF ALL OF YOUR SONGS!
If you wish to manually drop and drag songs, you can do this as well and it will ask you if you want to use your ipod like a disk (like a flash drive.)
My suggestion is to import all of your songs you want on your home computer. You can drag songs from your "Library" to your ipod, simply select and drag them to the ipod icon.
If you want to charge your ipod at work just plug it in, don't click anything and then eject it. Or click import songs manually.
when you are downloaded songs onto your ipod from itunes you dont have to pay! no you dont , you can download the free limewire and download songs from there and then you can drag them on to your itunes and it doesnt cost you 1 thing! :)
download limewire then add all your songs there. Then go to options and transfer options. After browse your files and select a file. Then go to itunes and click file in the left hand corner and click add file to library. There should be files and click the one you added your limewire song to. then drag the library to your ipod icon.
You can charge it with usb cord. Make sure the latest drivers are downloaded for pc to recognize the ipod. Then you can also sync ipod with media player 11 under the sync option. You can also go to my computer and see your device. Double-click to open the drive. With this window left open, you can then go to music folder and drag and drop the songs from media player to the ipod drive/folder.
You need to drag the downloaded files INTO iTunes to get iTunes to catalog the files. Once they are in iTunes you can sync to your iPod.

You are supposed to transfer songs usin itunes....simple drag and drop doesnt work....
You can download itunes from www.apple.com\itunes
If you are already using itunes, perform a restore on the ipod using itunes...you will find restore option under the summary tab in itunes.
you are still under warranty...take it to the sony apple store...they will fix it /replace it or tell you there is cost if it not the battery (note do not tell them you charged overnight, and for the future do chage any gadgets more than 3-4 hrs) when you do charge over night you are actually shorten the battery life span or overcharge....so as soon as you come home from school, work, whatever cell/ipod or any other device needs to be charge...charge it now and unplug before you go to bed....
I am not sure about the 1st generation but the 2nd generation definitely charges via the USB connection. If you don't hear the music its because there are no songs on your device. When you initially add songs, they go to the Library in iTunes, not the Shuffle. Just drag and drop your songs from the "Library" to your "Device" in iTunes and then you'll notice them get sync'd with the Shuffle.
