Archos 504 the unit boots fine but shuts itself down after a min approx. i tried battery and usb power but nothing seems to stop this. any ideas?

After removing the battery, I discovered a small brass reset button, about 3 mm in diameter, near the battery connection terminal. This was gently pressed with a pen for 15 seconds. After refitting the battery, the unit was fully functional again. This reset results in needing to set the clock again. No other settings are affected.

I had the exact same problem, I looked a bit on the net and I found the answer. What you have to do is push the reset button when your archos isn't plugged on. The reset button is located behind the battery ( you'll have to the remove the battery ) near the pins that connects the archos to its battery. It looks like a gold circle and if you push it you'll see it's a button. After pushing the reset button try to put the battery on back again and replug your archos, it should work normally now.

* Press the reset button on the buttom of the device using a papr clip. It should shut it off. then try to turn it on again.

try the next if the problem still exist.

Problem solve 2

* Download the latest frimware from Archos.com on to the desktop on your computer ( i recommend desktop because it will be easy to find) Then plug the device to a pc Using USB cable. turn the archos on by holding power switch and TV/LCD buttons at the same time until a white screen comes up. it should ask for Usb. if it does pick the ubs. if it does not give you a USB option but these "NO", "REPAIRE", "FORMAT" move the curser to repaire. do not pick the format which will delete all the contents and plugins you have on your device.

after repaire completes it should say done. do not press the done wait until you see the archos connection under My computer. it should normaly come up with name 504 or you will be able to see the archos icon. place the firmware in to the main drirector not under any folder. then press the ok button to confirm the "done" device will power off and start with a white screen again but this time it will update the firmware and restart do not unplug the Usb cable until the update completes. It should restart again and load the normal user interface. Your device should be fine and back to normal.

Press the Reset button on the inside of the unit with the battery removed. This should solve the Problem. If not you may need to send it in.

Reset button is located under the battery. So remove the battery and loo for the button at the end of the archos where the battery pins make contact. To the right of those and half way down between the pins and the case of the hard drive will be a gold round looking circuit. this is the reset. Press it and off you go.

Try holding down the on/off button for 30 seconds. It should reboot. Next go to the Archos site and download the newest firmware and follow the instructions.

Kept trying the reset and just before I put a hammer through the hard drive it started again. Yippee!

Did you try flashing the firmware on the unit?

bad battery bad ones will show charged but cant push out full violts pc needs ok buy new one 1st

My Archos 605 is freezing or stops responding during playback, or when recording, what should I do?
First take a look if your battery is fully charged.

You can also make a long press on the on/off button for 15 seconds; it will switch off the unit and your data will be not erased

If your device continues to stop and freeze, you have the possibility to format it from the settings menu; you can do this into settings, then select system and repair and format tools.

Before doing this, you have to save all your files on your computer
