the bearings are about $20,the lip-seal to protect the bearings from water is about $45,and if you hire it done you need to find out the labor rates in your area,it can take from 2-7 hours to complete depending on how hard the old water soaked and rusted bearings come out of the bore
The water level on the Hotpoint WMA range of machine should be below the door, check out the error code definition at this site. You probably have a pressure chamber blockage or partial blockage. There are also workshop manuals for the Hotpoint WMA & WM machines which run through this sort of repair.

If you have not rectified your problem, you need to seperate the 2 door halves by removing all screws securing the 2 halves, and prize`appart, then you can easily change the spring.

Thanks.
This is for the WD420, but could be useful for you.
The filter is inside the machine. If you machine is still under guarantee I would try and get it done that way. Otherwise turn off the power and pull out the machine to get a the back. Remove the panel at the bottom where the discharge hose comes out. You should see a black concertina type tube coming from the drum attached by a jubillee clip. The filter is inside. Losen the clip and pull away the tube take out the filter and clean it. When you replace it don't forget to put the ball float back in and check its well fixed by running a spin cycle before sealing up.

The black grime is mold. Once it is set into the rubber it is nearly impossible to remove. Bleach would have been my suggestion but since you've already tried that, replacing the bellows (door seal) is your next option. In the future, when the machine is not in use try keeping the door slightly open for any standing moisture to evaporate.
If the door locked light is flashing, then in all probability, the main p.c.b board has blown due to a motor fault which caused the fuse to blow in the first case..
If no llight at all, then could be broken door latch or spring. If you pull on the handle and it feels sloppy , then that is where your problem is, it is not very often a door lock fails on one of these m/c's.
