I have a Kenmore Elite 110.26962502 and need to remove lid.
I have a Kenmore Elite 110.26962502 and need to service the lid switch. I keep reading to "simply" remove the end caps from the control panel. Can't get them off. Removed the retaining screw from the back but won't budge.
On my kenmore elite, after removing the 3 retaining screws that were visible from the back of the machine, I had to reach under the lid and pull/squeeze the brass clips to "release" the cabinet from the back panel. ( others show "popping" these clips using a flat blade screwdriver after flipping the control panel out of the way) My control panel did not "flip" up out of the way. It is secured with two more clips that are only accessible once you have the cabinet separated from the back panel. This little tidbit of info would have been greatly appreciated! My problem was the lid "safety" switch. I bypassed it entirely by connecting the two wires(not the green ground) with a wire nut and some electrical tape. I know others recommend against this. However, as I am the only one to operate my machine, I know to push the knob to stop the machine from washing or spinning should I need to. Also, on the plus side, did not have to buy any parts that would have eventually broken again.BUT BEST OF ALL, I NEVER HAVE TO SLAM MY LID AGAIN!!!On my kenmore elite, after removing the 3 retaining screws that were visible from the back of the machine, I had to reach under the lid and pull/squeeze the brass clips to "release" the cabinet from the back panel. f84 Indicates the lid cannot lock.
Check for items caught in the lid keeping it from closing completely.
Is soap, fabric softener, or anything else keeping the lock from extending into the lid?
The control detects an open lid switch, or cannot determine if the lid is locked. Test the lid lock connection to the washer's control board and lid lock resistance levels.

HI THERE, IT SOUNDS AS IF YOUR PUMP IS BLOCKED, NOT WORKING OR SOMETHING MORE SERIOUS. START BY CHECKING THE PUMPS IS NOT BLOCKED, LOOSE CHANGE NORMALLY CAUSES THIS AND IS RELATIVELY EASY TO FIX.
Finding the pump on the Kenmore Elite top load washer is a fairly easy project that can be done in about a half hour. The Kenmore Elite is part of the GE line of appliances and shares many of the same interior mechanical parts and systems. The Kenmore Elite is a very streamlined exterior cabinetry design, but the interior can be accessed by removing just a few screws in order for you to locate the water pump. things you'll need:
Screwdriver
1
Unplug the electrical cord of the Kenmore Elite top load washer from the electrical outlet before attempting to locate the pump.
2
Remove the end caps on the control console of the dryer by pressing in on the caps with your thumbs and pulling the caps forward to unfasten them.
3
Unfasten the screws on the ends of the control console in the front with a screwdriver and tilt the console back so that it rests on the back hinges.
4
Unplug the top lid switch from the rear of the lid that sits underneath the control console, pulling the switch straight up off the metal prongs by hand.
5
Pry the metal clips that sit on the top lid up with a screwdriver, lifting the clips to unlatch the top and pull the top lid cover off the washer base, setting it aside.
6
Locate the water pump at the base of the washing machine on the top of the motor shaft.
7
take the cover off the pump and remove any blockage or debris.
The lid switch is likely faulty and will need to be replaced. You can get one from partselect website or repairclinic website. I recommend partselect. If you desire, you can test the switch with an ohmmeter in ohm position. Should have infiinity reading with lid closed and no reading while open.
Sounds like the timer is faulty. Or you lid switch is out of wack. Try leaving leaving lid open and placing a screwdriver in switch located where the lid clip comes down into washer. If this works the switch will need replaced. Timer is another story as you will have to remove top panel and replace timer if the lid switch is not the cause
You may can slightly bent the part the lid contacts so it will be depressed further thereby making the switch. If that doesn't work then you will need to replace the switch.
Check the lid switch... sometimes if something heavy or someone sits on the lid, it can tweak it just enough so the lid switch loses contact and will keep the machine from turning on. You can sometimes bend the lid back. Check the lid switch by sticking a credit card between the lid and the switch with the lid closed... does that solve it? let me know.. KEN
