Samsung PDP Module S42AX-YB01; no picture, sound ok

It is a MEDION TV with the Samsung Panel in it. After opening the set I found an "exploded" IC (U5502) on Y-Buffer LJ41-02761A R1.3. Took the Buffer away but still there is noch "halfpicture" on the screen. But I feel that on the Y-Main LJ41-02759A the IC (U5016) gets pretty hot. Does anybody have an idea if it is sufficient to replace the lower Buffer or do have to replace even the Y-Main also (would cost a lot of money).

Thanks, but my problem is to decide which board I should replace. Is it sufficient to replace only the lower Y-Buffer or do I have to replace also the Y-Main Board. The decision is hard because these board are very costly (500 ?).
Again the sound works fine, there is no picture. I measured all voltages of the power supply. They are ok. On Logic Main board there are 2 green LED, the right once is steady on, left one is blinking. No idea what that means.

Hello folks, thanks for your help. I could repair the Plasma by changing the Y-Main board and the lower Y-Buffer. Too bad the spare boards are very expensive. I paid round about 350,--?. Now I will try to repair the Y-Main board which has some problem around the IC U5016 (Power FET-Switch) which gets real hot. There are 2 of these switches on the board U5016 and U5012 and U5012 is of normal temp. The big problem is to redesign because their is so juch printing on the board that is hard to follow the contacting lines. If somebody already had the same problem and got some experience I would be real happy to hear what I could do.

If you go to www.encompassparts.com and click on guest log in and do a part number search with the numbers you have listed, except use LJ41-02761A, and it will give you the cost and such.

Testimonial: "Thanks a lot for your comment. Yes I will change both boards and afterwards I will try to find the problem in the Y-sus board. Thanks again"

  • Anonymous Sep 08, 2009

The safe thing to do is replace both. If the Y-sus board is bad it will burn up the drive board, so you could chance it just being the drive, because its all most impossible to isolate which board is bad with the plasmas. This is why it is expensive to repair the plasmas.

I have a Samsung TV Model S42AX-YB01. The tv acts like it is turning on and off by itself. I have unplugged it, but that doesn't work.

Fault with its main board. Short circuited component/s at it. Contact any service technician; or the authorized service center. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/ . In most cases, the main board might have to be replaced. If so, a software [firmware] update too might be necessary.

Top half of screen goes black

Sounds like your having problems with your Y-main(upper buffer) is getting too hot. The IC's located on this board are really bad about going out a lot. If you take the back cover off your Plasma. U will see that the manufacture of the panel is Samsung and the panel model is probably S42AX-YB01. you should be able to purchase the board. probably will run about $ 150.00.
Hope this helps

Hello, I have a Samsung S42AX-YB01

it unusual to have the screen go faulty itself. With plasma screens what goes is a power transistor, and there are 3 or 4 of these on one of the circuit boards. The likely board is the one with the big heat sinks as the power has to be stepped down to a lower voltage before it can be used properly. It is best if you replace all of the power transistors as one may have affected the other. If you are no good with a soldering iron then either get someone else to do it or replace the whole Circuit Board (PCB). Beware there are plenty of people aching to make a quick buck out of people who have no knowledge on this technology. If you want someone else to do this for you then find someone honest. A telltale sign for the power transistors is that they sound a pop when they go faulty. A symptom is a blank screen sometimes showing on standby mode. I would say your screen itself is ok, so sell it on to someone who needs to replace a physically damaged/smashed one if you no longer need it.

Half the screen has gone black

Ok first lets start with the half screen and no lit screen . Samsung plasma panels (S42AX-YD01) HD V4. are really bad about the Y-board (upper, lower) buffers are really bad about getting hot and burining up. If u remove the back cover of TV u will see on the left side the Y-board (it will be marked in small letters) if u look and the rows of IC's with heatsinks on the buffers will be a dark yellow. Majority of the time if u remove the buffers. and look underneath them u will see the solder has melted from the board. U can replace the Y-board and buffers and the TV will work fine.
Next part if u have vertical lines in the panel. There is not much u can do as a repair. Only thing u can do is get panel replaced. because there is and IC that is burned up on the panel, and trust me there isn't anything u can do to fix it. If u want to see for yourself. After removing the back cover, remove SSB, and brackets holding PDP in place. at the bottom of TV there is a row of buffers marked E,F,G, ( i think) there is a long heat sink covering the IC's at the bottom connected to the bottom of PDP. As u can see without a $70k machine to change this there is not much u can do with it. Hope this helps.
