If the discs are clean and pretty much scratch free, then this is most likely a bad hard drive. If you have another PC or laptop, try burning copies of the recovery cds and then use those. If the problem remains, you will need a new hard drive.

Either you DVD is corrupt, OR the DVD reader is not working correctly. It seems the reason the restore failed, is that it "Thinks" the Hard Drive is corrupt, too corrupt to replace the OS on...
The only thing to try now, is to get a Windows install DVD, put DVD in drive and boot from the DVD, then try to install with that, when you get to installing and it asks if you want to Format, do so, format Full NTFS. Then try to proceed to installing. If this too fails then you will need to replace your hard Drive, quite a simple matter.
On the System Recovery Options menu, click Startup
Repair. Startup Repair might prompt you to make choices as it tries to
fix the problem, and if necessary, it might restart your computer as it makes
repairs.
Usually when you see this type of display problem the lcd display needs replacing. Do you know if it was bumped or dropped? That is usually what can cause this. The connector for the screen inside the lid gets shifted just enough to not make a proper contact. Can be fixed but it is a very fiddly thing to do. And usually involves bad language and a few hours of trial and eoor to get it right.
Replacement of the screen is much safer for your sanity and cheaper.
I believe with Toshiba they normally would give you a recovery disk and then a drivers and utilities disk as well. If you don't have both then I would suggest installing windows xp and then go to this page:http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/modelContent.jsp?ct=SB&os=&category=&moid=835452&rpn=PQG10U&modelFilter=G15-AV501&selCategory=3&selFamily=804517Click on the downloads button and from there choose your operating system and you can download the drivers from that page.You'll know which drivers you'll need by going into the device manager and seeing what has a yellow question mark next to it.If you need more help with this let me know and I'll help you more.
I went to the Intel site and downloaded the Intel® PRO/100 VE Network Connection driver here. It worked great. Now if I could find the right audio/multimedia drivers I'd be happy. Hope this helps.
The F15 and G15 series Laptops (which we both have), have an Out-of-Warranty fix (for free). This is not normal, as you may know. The reason it's free, the motherboard is defective... I just called today and they're still replacing the motherboard for free!
Go to the Toshiba website and call their Tech Support number. They'll tell you it's out of warranty and they're going to charge you, just ignore all that. When you get your foreign tech support person on the phone, tell them you've read that the F15 and G15 series were defective and were being replaced free (even without warranty). They'll get your product number of the laptop, process the order, ship you a box (pre-paid shipping), you ship the laptop to them, they fix it, they ship it back, you're back in business!
The solution to your second problem is to insert the CD Qosmio Player Recovery CD. The buttons on the top do actually work (most of the time) yet it seems for some reason qccasionally it takes the CD refresh to get them working again. The picture and sound are great once you have got them working. So, don't be discouraged it's a great PC (once you have resolved your problems) I have had mine for 3 years w/o problems except for this one just described. Good luck.
One other thing I did have trouble with the Bluetooth, I resolved it by buying a Targus Bluetooth dongle, (disaabling all built in Bluetooth) then everything "paired" and worked easily, (unlike the built-in)
Hi,
I did a Google on your error 437 and it would seem that this problem pops up only if:
1. using SYMANTEC (Ghost); or
2. using Original Toshiba Restore Disc.
where possibly:
a. the restoration procedure needs to write a log file somewhere (A:?) which does not exist and therefore waits;
b. the restore disc is probably corrupted; and/or
c. the Ghost image is corrupted.
A few things you can try:
* On another computer, check the integrity of your recovery disc;
* Get hold of another Windows installer and do a complete, clean, fresh install (you will have to use your original Win numbers @ the bottom of your laptop). You will only need the recovery disc for your hardware drivers; or
* Call Toshiba Support and get assistance. I was made to understand that they provide replacement Recovery Disc (>50USD).
Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things are or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
