Haywood Max-Flo Pump (self priming)for indoor inground pool 3/4 HP ... model C48J2N131A -- yesterday turned off master breaker switch to everything in the pool area (including power to pump) so that I could open the container that holds the chlorine pucks ... once I had performed this task and closed up the container again, I turned the master breaker back on and everything started up again. I then checked individual breakers (there is a problem with a ventilation fan in the pool area not working) to see if one had been tripped off. the first breaker I turned off happened to be the one that powered the pool pump ... when I turned it back on the pump would only hum for about 15 - 20 secs and then I heard it click off. the pump was very hot. I let it cool down completely ... it has been off now for 24 hrs. but when I turn the breaker on again, the pump just hums/drones for about 15 - 20 secs and then stops making any noise. what is the problem? is there a reset button?

The motor may have blown the start capacitor. It is the black cylinder about 1-1/2" dia x 2-1/2" long. Look at the end with the wires for a small hole. Is it blackened or have a hole blown thru? If so replace it. Otherwise have a local electric motor repair shop look at it for possible repair or replacement.

Pool pump squealing

sometimes the gasket from the wet side of the pump fail and the pool water enters the bearing assembly of the pump. if there is a descent pump store, they can change the bearings within an hour. otherwise, a new pump is the solution

I was told that the Aqua Flo Master Xp2 Spa pump 1.5 hp 2 speed pump was the equivalent to the Sta rite Max E Pro 2 speed pump but then from another source was told that the Aqua Flo was not made for in...

I responded to the previous question in regards to the motor only. The xp2 does not have the strainer basket that the max-e-pro has . If this was a regular hot tub, the xp2 would work great, if this is above ground, then you do need a pump with a strainer basket. Again the xp2 will not work for an inground hot tub as the set up is different than an above ground unit.

Pump was working fine yesterday popped the breaker

Hi Mohn,

Don't know your geographic location, but where I am we've been in the single digit temperatures for three days. Everything that can freeze has frozen.

If you are in a similar area, even though the water in the spa (I'm assuming the spa pump is being used on a spa) is heated, the pump housing isn't. If it iced up, it could very well cause the problems you describe.

Comment back with some more detail before I continue down what might be the wrong path.

Best regards
Mike

There is a overload switch - somtimes inside the starter solenoid area.
While you have the pump disconected from mains power - check to see if pump impella turns freely.

Pumps Capacity?

# Aboveground filter systems and small inground pools (under 10,000 gals) should use a Low Head pump like a Maxim, or Dynamo or Power-Flo. # Pools from 10,000-20,000 gals can use a Medium Head pump like a SuperPump, a Pinnacle or Cygnet. # Pools over 20,000 gals could possibly use the High Head pumps like, Super II, Challenger, Ultra-Flo or the Sta-Rite pumps. # Pool/ Spa combos with at least 3 lines influent and 2 - 3 back to the pool, 2" plumbing may be able to handle the Ultra High Head pumps like NorthStar and the WhisperFlo
