Whirlpool Model GD5RHAXNQ00 Side by Side, There is ice in the ice maker but it will not dump it into storage bin. On/Off Switch is on, infrared switch appears to be working (red light blinks next to On/Off Switch, when infrared control is pushed closed the red light stays lit). Water dispenser is working. Wanted to remove ice making unit but Use & Care Guide booklet is useless and doesn't give instructions on how-to. Don't want to break anything. Will continue to search internet for directions on this while waiting for reply here. Thanks
Your ice maker has a heater on the bottom of the tray that heats up the tray enough to allow the ice to release from the tray. It's energized when the ice maker advances to a point that the fingers touch the ice. There is a micro switch inside the head that turns the heater on. You will need to remove the ice maker to repair it. You should have two 1/4" bolt on the top and one or two on the bottom ( Don't know which model you have). If I knew the model number you have I could tell you what you would be looking at after you pull the front off the head of the ice maker. There are two major types. One you can test while still mounted and the other you can advance only. Once you have taken the unit out, you can ohm the heater. If it's good, your problem will be the micro switch. It cost around $8.00. If the heater is bad, you can replace it, but It's hard to do and I think you will find it will be better to replace the ice maker. I have replace a few and around half didn't work afterwords due to them breaking while installing them. You have to bend the metal over the element ot install and it's tricky to do this without breaking the element. I Hope this helps. Please rate my solution. Thanks

Ice maker exploded view is on page 19, and parts are listed on page 2 of the parts manual. I agree, the care and use guide to be useless.

Have you tried thi site? Hope this helps and good luck.
You
have two sides to the water control valve. One side is for the water coming from
fountain and the second side is to refill your ice maker after each cycle of
dumping ice into the ice bin. The freezer should be a 5 degrees or below for
the ice maker to function properly. If the ice maker is empty then fill with
tap water up to top edge of the ice maker and allow to freeze. If after the
water freezes and dumps the ice into the ice bin the ice maker does not refill
I would recommend replacing part=> 67006009 Dual Water Control
Valve
or here=> 67006009 Dual Water Control Valve
If the ice maker has old ice inside and does not want to dump itself it will be considered defective and the ice maker core moduel will need be replaced=> W10190972 Ice Maker Assembly
