Hi,
I read that "Frost free refigerator models with a top mount freezer utilize a drain to take the water melted off the coils to the evaporator pan. This pan collects the water in the bottom of the unit sometimes using the heat of the compressor to increase the evaporation rate. If this drain becomes clogged with ice or debris it will back-up and eventually over flow. This overflow usually collects in the bottom of the fresh food compartment below but can also leak onto the floor."
...and that the solution to this problem is to: "locate the drain and inspect it for blockage. Often the drain tube is simply frozen over and requires the application of warm water to free the clog. However, it could be solid debris that must be removed from the drain."
The online user manual and guide at FixYa states that: "The water generated during the defrosting flows down to the drip tray located at the back part of the refrigerator and its evaporated automatically."
Any idea of how I can access the drain to thaw it out?
Some units don't have a drain tube. The water flows down the back of the fridge into the bottom and it just makes a mess. It has been a problem ever since they started going "Energy efficient". The drain was a hole and they had to close the holes. If you're lucky enough to have the drain, it will be located inside the back wall of your freezer. The inside walls must be removed. The drain will be in the drip pan, below the freezing coils (fins) in the back of the freezer.

This problem seems to be two sided. A refrigerator
defrost it is supposed to take the water from defrost down a pipe located
behind the freezer rear wall to a pan below the refrigerator where there is a
fan blowing warm air over the water to evaporate back into your home or
business. If that drain is blocked your refrigerator will accumulate a large
block of ice and frost behind the rear panel of freezer and temperatures will
warm considerably in fresh food compartment and freezer. Here is one site I want you to read over=> Leaking Refrigerators Just What may Be Happening and here=> Leaking Refrigerators here is a link to a service manual=> LFX25960xx Service Manual Let
me know if this service manual is close enough to your model number. At this point I am looking for air blockage behind the rear panel of freezer. If air is being blocked by ice and frost you can use a hair drier to help speed you up while melting ice. If drain is blocked use whatever you can to open the drain line mentions on the links I sent you to and let me know what is found, Thanks Sea Breeze
