Ok ...look how is done ....
if the wlan is configured correctly and on the first entry you have the other pc....configured on tcp/ip
to get an automatic ip from the router ...the second one needs to be configured the same ...
but sometimes you have to asign the ip manually ...as it follows....choose the obtain and Ip address automatically ,and on the alternate configuration check the user configured , and place an ip as ot follows:
usually the router ip is the default gateway ...and the pc ip will be the next one ...so take a look and see what ip was assign on the computer that works ...and assign to the second one the next ip available ( ex.: 192.168.1.100 for the first pc ....and 192.168.1.101 for the second...) next the sub-net mask will be 255.255.255.0 and as I said the sub-net mask will be the router's ip 192 .168.1.0 or what ever the ip is ...
be sure the other settings are correctly done ...take a look on the interval of the ip addresses the router is set to assign ...it can be manually changed ...and maybe the second pc do not get into that interval ...I believe that the default is from the router's ip ..+ one to 100 more ...

First thing to do is to check the other ports on the router if you will have connection, second is to check if the other computer has its LAN card installed (this is where you plugged in the cable from the router to the back of computer. try also to check if the lights on the router port and at the back of your computer is blinking. After that go to the computer that is not connecting. On the desktop you can see my computer or just computer>right click on the computer icon then left click on propoerties> click on hardware tab> then click on device manager> try to look for network adapter and click on the plus sign on its side to expand it. Examine if the icons have any yellow question mark or exclamation point or an x mark on it.

If it does, The yellow question mark means that the drivers for the LAN card is not yet installed. The exclamation point means The driver is not correct or is corrupted. And the X mark is disabled.

For the first symptom, you need to install the driver for the LAN card using a cd that came with it, or try to check its brand and model name so you can just download it.
Second symptom, you need to uninstall its drivers then reinstall the correct and updated one. To uninstall you just need to right click on the sub network icons then uninstall. Reboot/Restart your pc, Install the correct one.
Third symptom, you just need to right click on it then left click on enable. If it happens that the lights are not lit on the router try using the other ports or changing the cables. If the LAN card is not litting up it means it is already defective

Hi,
this will be a networking Problem. You have to setup the second computer. run the setup new network wizard. which may ask you to use your windows xp disk et,c.
you may also have to manually change the i.p address.
i,d suggest studying setting up a network connection between two computers.

My company provided me wired internet using Paradyne 6381 wired modem. it works fine. I have D Link 2640 T wirelss modem + router available with me. Please advise me how do I connect available D link 2640...

Since your D-Link 2640 is a modem + router it may not work the way you intend.

You need just a wireless router without modem.

Run a small Ethernet patch cable from your Paradyne modem into the WAN port on your router, you can plug your existing Ethernet cable into one of the other LAN ports on the router, then access the router setup using the computer connected to the Ethernet cable using a browser and putting the router's IP address into the address line of your browser. It will most likely be 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1.

Once you have configured the Wi-Fi router you will have your wireless network. Full instructions should come with the router.

Routers are available for as little as $29.95 but expect to pay closer to $79.95 for satisfactory speed and capability.

How Can One Cable Modem Work With Two Wireless Routers? By Terry Stockdale Leave a Comment In How to Fry a Wireless Router or Two, I wrote about my brother's experience frying a pair of wireless modems in a lightning storm. Last week, I talked about what had happened, why it happened, and what he could do to prevent the problem in the future (this was the third set of routers, plus he lost a computer motherboard in that storm).
This week, we'll look at his network layout, and why he could not get the network to set up properly.
To summarize the situation, he has an office an a shop, with computers on his network in both locations. Some connect via wired connections (Ethernet), while others use wireless connections. His Internet cable comes into the office first.
In the past, he first used Linksys wireless routers. Then DLinks. This time, he chose Belkin wireless routers.
The incoming cable (standard cable-company RG6 coaxial cable) connects to the cable modem.
Then, the cable modem connects to the WAN (wide area network "Internet") connection on the router.
The local wired ports on the router provide connections for two wired computers. Notebooks connect via wireless connections. Finally, one wired connection on the router is used to connect an Ethernet cable that runs 250 feed to the office from the shop.
That cable was the lightning problem, as it runs outside in a conduit just a little bit underground. Effectively, he's got a 250 foot antenna looking for the electromagnetic pulse from a lightning strike. Most of us don't worry about that because our equipment is so well grounded in the house, plus the Ethernet cables we use are much shorter lines. Even if we have underground cable company lines running from their switch boxes to our houses, those lines are usually only exposed about 40 to 50 feet before they enter the dwellings.
Back to the situation. When he hooked up his replacement routers, the router at the shop immediately worked. Not so, on the router in the office. The Ethernet light and the Activity light just poounded away, blinking and blinking rapidly. But, nothing connecting to the router could get to the Internet.
If they connected a computer directly to the Ethernet cable in the office, without running it into the router first, it worked just fine. But, with the router in place, it didn't work.
The problem was the way he connected the two routers. The problem is that there is no Out Of The Box connection that will work reliably. At least one thing, usually two, has/have to be tweaked one way or another.
As one might guess, the easiest way to connect would be to connect one router's WAN connector to the cable modem, using Ethernet cable, and then use Ethernet cable to connect one of the Local Area Network (LAN) connectors on that router ot the WAN router on the other computer.
There is a problem with this setup, but it's easily solved. First, if you're using identical wireless routers, as he was, the wireless routers are both trying to use the same IP Address range and subnet mask for their local area networks.
That works fine for the first router, which is connected to cable modem. On the cable modem side, it gets an IP address on the Internet Service Provider's network - often an actual Internet address and not just a private network address. On the local area network, it assigns the IP address range specified in its setup menu. This often varies by manufacturer. In the case of Linksys, this is 192.168.1.x. In the case of the Belkin routers he bought, it was 192.168.2.x.
The problem occurs at the second router. On it's WAN side, it sees a 192.168.2.x network - but it's default setting tells it to give 192.168.2.x addresses on it's local area network side, too. In other words - it's confused. It doesn't know where to find the Internet because both networks are assigned the same addresses.
The solution was to disconnect the second router's WAN/Internet cable, connect to it via a wired computer, and tell the second router to use a different IP address range. We chose 192.168.3.x.
We hooked up the Ethernet cable to the Internet/WAN side of the router again. The router started working fine, normal light blinks for activity, no more confusion. The computers could get to the Internet just fine.
Problem solved.
That solved the Internet connection problem. However, no computers in the office would be able to share files or printers with the shop, nor would computers in the shop be able to share with the office. That was both acceptable and intended, in this case.
It could be done; however, that would require a different configuration on the routers and connections.

When I turn on the wireless on my Vaio laptop running vista, the wireless network I having running through a linksys (wrt54g) router stops working.. sometimes after restarting the router it will work for...

Hello,

The Problem you are having comes up because you probably put on your router before putting on your Computers, including your laptop.

What I would advise you to do is that, always try to put on your Computers first, before turning on your router.

This will make your router to dynamically distribute IP Adresses to your computers and therefore reduce conflict.

And if at any time, you make a mistake of putting on you router before your PC, just switch off your router for 2 Minutes and switch it back on.

It will enable your router to renew IP Adresses to all your Computers without having conflict.

Then Always remember to make your Computers Obtain IP Address Automatically, and your Router Should be set to use DHCP.

This Solution is an exact solution that I used in my office last week, so its proved to work.

Hope this helps you out.

Keep me posted about the problem.

I cant connect to two computers at the same time

How to connect....

1- Two Computers:

# We are connect two computers together to share Internet, printer, scanner, files, and even programs

We can do it through either way:

1- Use A Crossover Cable And Two Network Cards. Two network cards are installed in two computers. Then use crossover cable to connect them.

2- Use a Phone Line and Two Special Adapters Sold as "Phone line network Kit". Two adapters are installed in two computers. Then use existing Phone line to connect them.

Connecting Two Computers Wirelessly:

1- Wi-Fi
2- Bluetooth
3- Infrared

Several types of fixtures exist for home networking:

1- Hubs
2- Switches
3- Routers

2- Computer with the internet

Before you can connect to the Internet and access the World Wide Web, you need to have certain equipment. In brief, you must have:

-A computer (preferably running an up-to-date operating system); -
-A modem and access to a telephone line or a local area network (LAN) that is in turn connected to the Internet; and connection software that will allow you to establish an account with a service provider and access the Internet

You Need:

Modem: This converts your digital computer information into analogue telephone signals. Phone Line: his may be your biggest expense after the equipment.

Internet Service Provider (ISP): ISP has a permanent connection to the Internet.

ADSL: a newly standardized transmission technology facilitating simultaneous use of normal telephone services, data transmission of 6 Mbit/s in the downstream and Basic-rate Access (BRA).

ADSL facilitates the simultaneous use of normal telephone services, ISDN, and high speed data transmission.

Another advantage of having an ADSL line is not missing calls while you're online, as both voice and data can be transferred at the same time.

disable the firewall on control panel.
check all the properties boxes on the network
connections and make sure firewall is disabled.

access the router setup and make sure that VCI is set to manual
and that you enter in the settings yourself (eg: 0,38 for aol broadband). Don't leave VCI, etc on auto, the router can't handle it.

Belkin wireless g plus mimo router

If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:

Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPOe.

Office Networking problems

Where does the cable from the wall jack come from? A switch that is connected to the Internet?

For the Internet to work with router, you need to have a modem that is connected to Internet already, meaning ISP knows about the router via MAC address, and from the modem use an ethernet cable to connect router port called "Internet" or "WAN". then from an open port in back of router another ethernet cable to your NIC in back of computer.

No internet connection on my laptops

Please understand as I get very basic to start but things very obvious to you I cannot see.

Generally when including a router in a home network starting from the cable (tv) or the phone socket (dsl) in the wall with a phone wire plugged in. The next box is generally provided by your internet service provider and is a modem/something that connects to the phone line or cable. Then sometimes when only one computer exists computers are directly connected to the modem with an ethernet cable (looks like a fat phone wire with oversize connectors) or a USB cable (small flat retangular ends).

When you want to add a router for multiple computers. The computer gets disconnected. If a USB cable was used it is often replaced with an ethernet cable and that cable connects to the WAN port (probably separate from a block of 4 lan ports) of the router you bought (tell me if you have two routers -- that is a different problem). If your service comes from a cable (tv) company your router may already be properly configured. If however you have DSL service from the phone company the chances your router is correctly configured are less. To finish with the cabling story -- your computer then hooks to one of probably 4 LAN ports all in a block. Now if you are lucky power on all devices and boot up your computer and see if you have internet access. If you do great if not please provide me the name of your internet service provider or a link to their help/support website and I will see what I can do to assist in completing the router setup. Until your wired computer gets access to the internet your girls wireless connections will not work either. Once we get the wired connection working we will address the wireless connections.
If necessary unplug the router and plug the computer back into the original cable until we get the router working.
