Hello, I have an LG DR275 which plays all discs except for dual layer types which it is having trouble reading or just simply won't play them at all, is there a firmware upgrade for this player for this type of fault? Could it just be a weak laser causing the issue? Thanks and best regards! Mickey

According to the operation manual for this model, DL (dual-layer) discs are not mentioned, so your unit may not be able to record or play that type of disc.

Of course, if you are using BLANK dual layer discs which have not been recorded or formatted on any other device, and the LG isn't recognizing them, then the disc type is probably not compatible with your model. It's likely to be a design limitation specific to this model; not necessarily a fault.

SOURCE: unlocking LG DR787T

It might be that you burned it to a cd-r. Is it possible it won't read cd-r but should be burned to a DVD. I might be wrong on this but with my (other brand) burner I kept getting a error and thought my 'corder was broken but it was that I was trying to get it to read a cd-r.

SOURCE: LG super blu player won't play blu ray disc

Have you updated the firmware on it? I had a similar problem with a Sony blu-ray player and I had to download an update and burn it on to a CD then allow the CD to update the blu-ray player. What's the model number of your player, I may be able to get a link to the update for you.

SOURCE: LG RH278 HDD/DVD Recorder

I have an LG RH278 HDD/DVD Recorder, which was suffering from the problem that it could not play any bought DVD movies, which were previously working fine in that same player. It would however play svcd and DVD+R/-R movie discs.

The solution was to replace the laser tray. I found a new LG DVD BD lens LPC-815 laser tray here: http://www.laser-xh.com/en/?act=showproduct&proid=1147
I bought two for $5.50 each. Shipping was $32 (DHL), all together $45.10 (PayPal fees included). Delivery was fast and accurate within 3 working days (China - Sweden).

LG GSA-2166D doesn't recognize a dvd+r disc

I would suggest getting a can of air and blowing it out real well. May take a couple of tries to get it clean. When these types of units set unused for a while, the various sensors get dirty. Sometimes the problem can be cleared up by simply inserting and ejecting the media 8 or 10 times. Let it run up to speed each time.

Lg dr275 does not recognize any disk

This has happened to me many times. After a player sits for a while, the lens that reads the discs can get a film/patina on it, especially if there has been cigarette smoke around it.

Try this:

Take a q-tip with rubbing alcohol on it (almost none, like dip it and squeeze most out with your fingers). Then, very GENTLY, with almost NO pressure, wipe the lens with a circular motion for a few seconds. Then, flip the q-tip over and dry the lens with a circular motion for a few seconds. Then, quickly blow on the lens to dry it and remove any remaining q-tip fibers/debris (don't spit, lol).

This has worked for me many times. If you can't access the lens from/through the disc door, you'll have to open the unit, in which case you could also blow out all of the dirt/dust with a spray can of air or small air compressor first.

Good luck.

Hi, I bought Bose 3 2 1 SERIES 11 Home system. but i cannot play wedding dvds on my system. All hollywood movies plays ok. I tried Verbatim DVD R & DVD-R there is no picture but the sound is there....

I would say that as with many manufacturers, the Bose 3-2-1 is meant to play Dual Layer DVDs. Since they hold data on 2 separate layers of the disc, these hold twice the amount of data than the Dvd+r or -r that you're using. When the Bose system tries to read the 2 layers and only finds one it, will not recognize the dvd. If you don't have a Dual-Layer burner and Dual Layer discs to burn to, you should upgrade your burning equipment. They're not that expensive these days. Cheers!

Dual layer disc problem

Did you glance in the manual to see what types of DVD it would play (typ. DVD-9, DVD-4, etc.) and try it?  This site can't prevent you reading appropriate manuals, you know.

Finalizing both sides

A Dual Layered (DVD-R DL) disc has two recording layers on the same side of the disc. No recording is made on the 'other' side of the disc.

Finalising the disc will finalise both layers. Most probably your computer DVD drive cannot read both layers of the DVD-R DL disc. DVD-R DL discs can only be played back on DVD devices that are compatible with dual layered discs.

Check your computer DVD drive spec to see whether it can read DL discs.
