ERR99 and not taking any photos.

So I started getting ERR99 on my Rebel XT 350D which is a yr and 3 months old. I used it sometime ago and I was having problems with the shutter release. Now I turn it on and its on with a fully charged battery and when i look through the view finder i cant see any stats in the window....its blank and it looks dark. when i press the shutter, nothing happens. it doesnt take any photos. I have also realized that when i use another lens, I dont get err99. With the 18- 55 i do get err99. I have a wedding to attend this weekend and I would really like to know if someone has any idea of what is going on with my cam. Its driving me nuts!!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

    Well its just not taking photos anymore with either of the lens. It turns on but not taking any photos at all. I called canon last night - they said it might be the body of the camera has an issue.

So you're saying the camera works fine with another lens, just not with the 18-55. Try cleaning the contacts where the lens and the camera body meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Err 99
Hello hemantp. This error code in this model indicates that the lens electrical contacts are dirty or slightly oxidized. To clean them you will need a common pencil with a clean eraser on the end and a lens cloth.

Detach the lens from the camera and hold it so that the lens' gold contacts are pointing down. Lightly "erase" their exposed surfaces and then clean them with the lens cloth to remove any debris.

Do the same with the gold contacts inside the camera body. Although this is a wee bit more challenging, you can do it by holding the camera so that the lens opening points down. That way no debris will fall inside as you clean. Joe

If you get err99 with lens then lens diapharm unit goes wrong and its giving er99.

Canon Power Shot SX10 IS - I've had camera for about 4 months. As of a week ago, I can only use small view finder for taking photos; the 2.5 screen for viewing does not work now. Able to view photos...
You can reset the camera to factory settings. If after that, you still have the same problem, make valid the Canon warranty since it's 4 months old.

My Canon Rebel has stopped importing pix properly, despite being quite new. It displays pictures ok, we get to Windows explorer to view them as thumbnails as normal(with 0 kb size!), which Windows cannot...
Try going to the Canon website for your country. It may be a driver problem in that the driver to download your photos is either out of date or incorrect for your camera. I had a very similar problem with my EOS 350D in that it would not import pictures from the camera to windows.
Occasionally my camera would take a photo of 0kbs but since my updated driver 6 months ago it has not done it once. Failing that get a 40D, the difference is amazing!!
