Hello. I have a Kenwood stereo, Rockford Fosgate amp, and a MTX Terminator series subwoofer. Stock speakers, the front 2 don't receive any power, the wires are dead. The back 2 speakers are the only ones that work. I've had the set up for about 6 years now, and only in the past year or so has this problem been happening. Whenever I step on the brakes, seemingly randomly, the stereo will simply turn off and give me a Miswire. Check wire and turn on again. error. It is as far as i know not the action of pressing the brake that is causing it. I have changed the ground bolt, checked the stereo for corrosion, unplugged and plugged in every wire I could find, and checked the fuse. Apart from overheating the Amp Which is what I'm starting to think the problem is. I live in Nevada. it gets HOT here. i don't know what else could be wrong. I've done everything I know with not being a mechanic or electrician. Any help would be appreciated.
Need more information like year make and model of vehicle this aftermarket radio is in --most likely you have tapped into one of the data wires or brake system
What i would do I disconnect all speakers from amplifier and check if there still is a problem. If not then speaker wire touching somewhere break light wires. If disconnecting speakers doesn't make any changes, then disconnect amp and see if head unit still turns off. If yes then you have to check all wiring to head unit to look for the short.
Hi Trey, i understand that you not a technician, what i do advise is to first get your head unit bench-tested, have all the output channels and currents checked thouroughly.
If that doesnt sort the problem then try a different head unit as a process of isolation.
If the problem still persists with a new head unit, then the problem is definitely with the points of connection from the head unit, OR you may have a weak battery.
The amplifier will not bring on a miswire fault in the head unit.

if your amplifier has the internal Kicker card dealie "little computer card on the side that you can change out crossover settings and such," Turn off the vehicle, remove this device and make sure the contacts on the card are clean and free from black soot (showing a spark). clean the contacts with a pencil eraser or something hard but soft... and put the little card back in place, start the car again and see if that helps, I used to lose one speaker every once in a while with the same amp. I ended up replacing the module with a different one from my dealer and it worked fine (still does and it's been in my car 6 years). Check that little module. if this doesnt work, while the car is running and the music is "playing" wiggle the card and see if it works sometimes and not others. Likely is the little module.

if so i think you have your polarities crossed
make sure you have negative to negative positive to positive

it sounds to me like its burnt.but with some amps the screws that hold it in place have to be screwed into the car chassisfor grounding. be careful not to srewe into hidden wires.

If none of the lights are coming on for the amp then the amp is not getting power and/or ground. Check the connections. Check the fuses. Or the amp is no good.
