Question about Hobart Welding Tools

Hobart 1600 champion D.C. Welder the governor does not kick in when welding or when using the generator have power ang spark.

The welder will strike an ark but the gov, does not kick in I can run a grinder off the generator but it runs slow.

SOURCE: I have a Hobart Champion 10,000 welder generator.

measure ouput on ALL available sockets - anything?
Take cover off electric motor-generator, visually inspect windings.
Measure continuity of all stator windings (2 or 3 points usually)
Measure continuity of stator thru brushset.
If all measures ok - has to be AVR module.

There is no mistery in generator - just stator to induce and rotor to obtain voltage.

Make sure that the ground clamp is securely fastened to the workpiece.
Ensure that the power pin is fully seated into the housing where it receives the current.
Ensure that voltage and amperage settings are correct.

Thermadyne predator has one cylinder not firing

Check or replace ignition wire, spark plug spark plug coil. Run a cylinder compression check. Should have same compression on both cylinders. If not, burnt valve, or flat cam lobe.

Welder wont strike and keep an ark

Check the output voltage of the welder (the torch and earth clamp). The voltage should be around 30 to 40 volts. If yu see the normal spark from the rod as you strike, but cannot hold an arc, have a look at your rods, they could be old, damp or incorrect for your welder or the type of work you are attempting.

FLOODING CAN TURN FUEL VALVE NEARLY OFF AND WILL RUN ROUGH BUT NOT REALLY GOOD ENOUGH TO DO ANY WELDING

sounds like the float in the carburetor is stuck open. remove the float bowl and use a parts cleaner or carb cleaner and spray down the float and seat area, make sure that the float moves freely and the seat moves and seals properly.

Welder will not power auxillary outlets

sounds like either something is shorted out or the governor is stuck. Check the governor linkage to start with and make sure it is free. Then check the push in breakers for the outlets to see if they are popped. If not the brushes or the armature could be stuck or corroded.
