I cannot send mail on my iphone.  I have tried to reset my account, but it won't verify

I have had an iphone for a few weeks and the email function has never worked properly. I have checked my settings with my ISP, and have even taken the phone to tha Apple Genius.

I can receive emails most of the time, although often it is just the header with a message saying 'this message has not been downloaded from the server'. I have never been able to send emails and usually get a message saying 'cannot connect to the server' or something similar.

Take a look at your SMTP mail settings. Settings --> Mail --> Accounts. Make sure that you have the proper outgoing (SMTP) server listed for that particular account.

Can recieve e mails, cannot send or reply to in-comming mail.all messages come up as failed delivery.no problem when first connected

1. Change the settings in your email software so that the email account you're using designates an Outgoing Email Service that your internet service provider won't block. Your internet service provider should provide you with the address of an acceptable Outgoing SMTP Mail Server. This information is often listed on their website; if it isn't, call their technical support and ask them the address of their Outgoing Email Server. Then go into your email software and change your current Outgoing SMTP Address to the one your ISP requires.
2. After you designate a SMTP address not restricted by your ISP, you may still receive the following error:
Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 530, Error Number: 0x800CCC78
Now you are reaching the Outgoing SMTP Mail Server, but it won't process your request without further authorization. You will need to go into your Email Software and find the setting that indicates that your Outgoing SMTP requires further authorization. Select this setting and enter the username and password required by your ISP (or reqired by who ever is the administrator of the Outgoing SMTP Mail Server that's not blocked by your ISP). For example, at the time this article was written MSN Internet Service's SMTP Address was: (secure.smtp.email.msn.com). However, this email server won't allow you to use it unless you send your MSN username and password along with your request to send email.

I have a verizon email account. I set it up on my iphone, and it receives mail, but will not send. I get an error that says: "the connection to the outgoing server 'outgoing.verizon.net' failed." Please...

If iPhone is unable to send mail, try these basic troubleshooting steps.
1) Tap Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars and under Accounts, tap the account from which you're trying to send mail.
2) Scroll down to where it says Outgoing Mail Server and tap the box where it says SMTP.
3) Scroll down to where it says AT&T SMTP Server, and tap it turn it on, or Turn on all other SMTP Servers.

Iphone email - sender address invalid

You need to set the outgoing mail server to one you can send from your iphone, ie the one your network carrier lists as you cannot send email through an AOL server unless you are using an AOL connection

I think I found the solution for those of you who are on roadrunner service. I researched online for several hours and came up with this solution - it works for me - receiving and sending all mail:
Go to Settings disable wi-fi instead of the pie on the top you will see the blue E Go to Settings - general - reset - click on reset networks Once your network is reset, click on Settings - Mail - add account - plus in your name, address, and e-mail account name [email protected] Scroll to incoming mail server: type in pop-server.nyc.rr.com user name (that's the first part of your e-mail addresss before the @nyc.rr.com) your password (the one you used setting up your account with roadrunner) scroll down to outgoing mail server host name: cwmx.com:587 click on Advanced - make sure that use ssl is off on both incoming and outgoing. Your server port should show as 587 when all done, click on the top left arrow which should show your e-mail address exit the mail system, the click on the icon from the main menu and it should work Good luck!
