A noise had been gradually increasing from a grinding sound to a high-pitched whine. COntinues until the screen is completely off. Sounds like a fan motor may be out of lubrication.

THAT TV HAS WHAT IS CALLED A COLOR WHEEL WHICH SPINS AT VERY HIGH RPMS AND CAN MAKE HIGH PITCHED WHINING/GRINDING NOISES IF A FAN WAS BAD THE TV WOULD SHUTDOWN AND THE SOUND WOULD BE MORE DULL SOUNDING.

I have a samsung hln507 and there is no picture. we start the tv, it has a high pitched whining sound, the fan and the color wheel are spinning, but there is no picture. after about 10 seconds the tv turns...

The colors wheel is dead.That why,u hearing high pitched whining sound.The colors wheel is spinning off of is motor axis and grinding it sides walls,that where the high pitched whining sound came from.Hire a tv Tech. for the colors wheel changing,because it requiring to take out alots of the machanicals parts itself,before u can come to the colors wheel itself to change it.

Thomson colour tube is gone

If you had mentioned that the picture tube is defective and confirmed it is a serious fault. You can rejenuvate the picture tube with a gun tester and short remover.This is not a confirmed solution but you can take a last try. Changing the picture tube is not recommendable for an old set and I would like you to go for a new Tv which will work out cheaper and gauranteed.

TV picture does not turn on

No,this tv have a colors wheel,it dead.The tv turn black&white,make loud grinding sound,make loud noises like a motor.All indication the colors wheel is spinning off of it axis motor and not functioning anymore.Hire a tv tech.to replaced the colors wheel,very difficult to replaced,many machanicals parts to take out,before even can see the colors wheel to replaced.

High pitched whine when the motor starts

Had the same problem. It quit within about 5 seconds after turning the TV off. Replaced the color wheel and the whine is gone. The picture also looks brighter, which may be due to dusting the projection lens with lens-cleaning compressed air (from a can). The color wheel was about $100 from Samsung parts and it took less than 3 hours to replace. I have an RCA Scenium HDTV DLP, Model HDLP50W151. Turned it on and went through it cycle, whining sound but the screen was gray. turned it off and then on again...no picture and there was no whining sound....

Sounds like the Color wheel on the Light engine has failed. Its a major repair. Contact Thomson at 1-866-465-7157 to find a local authorized repair center.

Umm you can buy my 44 thomson for spare parts.. i just bought the last sony 55 projector tv as sony will only make lcd and plasma now.,. not good for the enviroment as they use way way way more power.. than a projection tv.. but i guess global warming doesnt matter to peeps that want to hang a tv on their wall.. which is ugly a tv should look like a tv not a piece of glass...
