SOURCE: lock fail to open, L1000

Start with a puff of graphite dust, and work the key in and out of the lock, causing the rake on the end of the key to move the pins and springs up and down. Do this several times. Then, place the key in the lock, but not fully. Leave the key out of the lock 2 pin's worth. Tap the back of the key with a screwdriver **** (like a hammer blow, but softer), while applying slight pressure in the direction that you want the lock to operate. This is known a springing the lock, and is quite easily done, if you already have the right key. Don't give up, it may take up to 20 attempts to get the lock to spring. Each time that the lock doesn't move, return to the "locked" position, reset your hey to the "two pins out" position, and tap again. Once the pins clear the shear line, open the lock. Re lubricate the lock after it has been opened, and you are ready to lock it back.
Best regards,
