The num lock key is labeled as 'Num Lk' on the Dell Studio 15 keyboard. It is located above the =/+ key next to backspace.

To activate num lock, you cannot just press the button. You have to make sure the num lock light is on and then hold down Fn while using the numpad.

Hope this helps,

NOTE: my num lk keys won't work as above if I start with either 0,1,4. If I commence with the other num lk keys all works from then on.

Check the BIOS setup for a number lock on or off
sometimes F-10, F-2 to run setup. Look for number lock on- off. Dont forget to save changes.

SOURCE: I have a keyboard problem

If there is no NumLock key I don't see how we could use the shorcuts by using the Alt+the numbers that only the NumLock key enables.

Number and letter keys are stuck (type) together

This model has no numlock as it has no keypad. It looks like a faulty keyboard as the linked keys appear to be in the same column in the keyboard grid. You could try Fn+F11 as this solves certain other keyboard problems with symbols etc. Otherwise could be a new keyboard required.

I have a keyboard problem - typing a question mark etc produces weird characters - looks like a numlock problem but my Dell XPS 15 has no numlock key - thanks in advance, driving me nuts :)

There should be a num lock key on you computer. You may have to push the fn key located by the windows and the alt key on the bottom left of your computer. And this will give keys other functions. So look again for num lock in small righting on one of the keys

What is the keyboard combination for Ñ in a

Alt+0241

On Windows, the Alt key functions as a modifier like the Shift key. To make special characters, hold down the Alt key and type in the numbers from the numeric keypad. Note that on the some small keyboards (e.g. laptop keybaords) the “numeric keypad” is found by pressing the NumLock key and then looking for the keys on your keyboard that double as numeric keypad keys when in NumLock mode.

I am not able to disable the numlock on dell laptop

Hi,
To disable the NumLock on your laptop you need to press the Fn key (is located at the bottom right or bottom left or your keyboard), keep it pressed and then press the NumLock key.

I would like a manual for the latitude D610 keyboard to know how to use the symbol that are highlighted in bleu

In the lower left hand corner of your Dell Keyboard -- you will see a Blue Key labeled -- "Fn". This key allows you the use of ALL of the other blue labeled keys on your keyboard. You must press the FN key and the other "blue" key at the same time for them to work.

The keys on the right side of the keyboard with the blue numbers on them are controlled by the Numlock key and Fn key. The light at the top of the keyboard near the power button, with the number "9" inside a picture of a lock, will be lit if the Numlock is enabled.
You may need to press the Fn key to type numbers even if the Numlock is turned on. There is a setting in the BIOS called Enable Keypad and if you set it to By Numlock you will not have to hold down this key to type a number.

If you are still having trouble with these keys, please see the general keyboard troubleshooting guide

When i type a-key on the keyboard then a1 appears on the screen in Dell inspiron 1525 laptop, please assist me to get resolve this problem

Most likely you have your numlock key turned on by mistake. Look on your computer and see if there is a light with a padlock and a number in the padlock. It is probably lit up. Now look for a key on your keyboard called "numlock" and press the key once. See if the light goes off. When you have the numlock key on some of the letter keys will work as numbers like a calculator. When you turn it off the keys are back to letters.

Certain keys don't work

Very popular Dell situation. Only quick fix is to turn the unit over and tighten all the available screws. The second option is to replace the keyboard which is affordable at about 15-30 dollars and simple enough to exchange.Thirdly, you can purchase a keyboard and a PS2-USB adapter and use an external keyboad. The adapter is about 10 dollars and the keyboard ranges from 15-60 dollars.
