No display on monitor

Hi gurus. the power turns on, and the monitor is on, but there is no display. can not find the MOBO';s gpu plug, and therefore am using the videocard that is already pugged in. Can not tell if there is an error, as the MOBO does not beep as if the MOBO has recognised a problem

  • soundtechman Dec 09, 2007

Thanks guys. the MOBO is not mine, and i have forwarded your solutions to the MOBO owner. On inspection of both the provided manual and the downloadable PDF, i was unable to locate the pins located on JP1. Both manuals say to reset the MOBO, i need to clear CMOS, but with no pins, how do i go about doing that? is it now up to me to play with the jumper configuration to reset?

No video and no post beep suggest a serious fault, most likely in CPU or mainbard, but occasionaly ive seen that really bad ram can prevent a system from booting, start with changing the ram, and CPU if needed, if either of those dont work, mainboard sounds shot

Computer not always showing up on monitor after reboot. It only works after I turn pc off by button and psu off and on but only randomly. I am not sure if it is the mobo or psu or gpu - a gtx 960.

It might just be worth double checking that its not in fact your monitor at fault.
you said the the monitor isn't always displaying the picture, but you can hear that the computer is on?
You also say you are turning your computer off and on to cure the problem, which of course also power cycles your monitor.

When it happens again, power cycle your monitor by turning it off and on to see if the image reappears?

Mainboard: g31 m7 te - power: antec hcg750 - gpu: gtx560ti

No the mobo is compatible with the Power Supply, and GPU.
And vice-versa.

Mainboard fan???????
You mean the Processor (CPU) fan?

I'm guessing I guess, because computer case fans aren't on the motherboard/mainboard/mobo.
(MOtherBOard)

You're getting power to the mobo, but the question is how much?

1) IF ALL of the LED lights were on at once, they would use less than 1 Watt of power.

2) EACH fan uses 2 to 3 Watts of power.

3) A typical Processor can use from 51 to 125 Watts of power.
Just depends on what Processor it is.

http://206.108.48.60/app/en/mb/introduction.php?S_ID=363&tab=1

The mobo will support Intel Core2 Quad-Core processors. Depending on which one, you may be talking about Up To 105 Watts of power,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Intel_Core_2_microprocessors#Quad-Core_Desktop_processors

This is why LED's can light, and fans may spin, but the Processor isn't getting enough power, so the computer will not turn on. (Processor isn't turning on)

Why?

1) Just because that Power Supply is new, doesn't mean it is good.
Sometimes you get a bad one. Test the three main voltages coming out, with a multimeter set to DC Voltage.

Need guidance post back in a Comment.
(An economical multimeter can be purchased, for as little as $8 to $12. I have seen cheaper. Available in a multitude of stores. An auto parts store is but one example )

2) You don't have the 4-pin ATX +12 Volt power cable plugged in.
Goes to the white square 4-socket hole connector, to the left top corner of the Processor socket.
(Motherboard installed in computer case)

3) REQUIRES -> TWO 6-pin PCI-Express power cables, for the Nvidia GTX560Ti graphics card.

The Antec HCG750 PSU has 4 of them, so no problem there, IF you have two of them plugged into the graphics card.

Both connectors of the 20 + 4-pin ATX main power cable's connector, need to be used. Biostar mobo requires a 24-pin ATX main power cable.

Post back in a Comment as to power cables plugged in, and DC Voltage test on PSU.

Hi when I try to install vtx radeon hd 5450 graphics card no display is shown on monitor and all fans run fast computer appears to be booting but can't tell. compaq sr1519uk with MSI MS-7184 mbo,...

Hi Dave,

1. Have you ever tried testing your VTX HD5450 GPU to another system or try bringing it to the store where you purchased it.
2. After removing the VTX HD5450 GPU, did your Nvidia 8400GS worked? - If it works there might be a compatibility issue between your MOBO and HD5450 GPU if the card is good.
3. I think there is nothing to configure on your bios regarding Graphics setting because your Nvidia 8400GS worked without any problems.
4. Did you check the VGA/ DVI cable and power cable if it is plugged to the proper ports. There are times that even tough we are that good we miss something.

Hopefully this information helps.

Thank you for using FixYa.

also my elite book has a removable video card

if GPU overheats, fix that first.

the HP.com manual is free to read 24/7

Is the msi 650i mobo compatible w/ the 260 gtx sc vid card ?

your gpu might of overheated and burned out, you might want to flip the computer over,, and right next to the RAM there is like some type of card, which is your GPU, you might want to look into pulling it and replacing that.....

another way of doing this that might work is connect the laptop to another COMPUTER Monitor, and see if anything is displayed if nothing is displayed it might be b/c your GPU did burn out....

i hope this helps please let me know what happens...

Nvidia geforce 9500 gt gpu work on asus p5n73-am

Hi!

Nahh...you can use that gpu with that mobo, but i wouldent recomend it. The GPU - Requires NVIDIA HybridPower™- enabled motherboard, and that mobo dosent have that. It might work but you cant use the full power of that gpu on that mobo. And beside that, that gpu is bigger then the mobo itself
I sugest you to buy another mobo, the gpu you looking at is a good one but your mobo isent that good.

Here is the spec for the GPU:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_9500gt_us.html

And here are the spec for that mobo:
http://shopping.msn.com/specs/asus-p5n73-am-motherboard-micro-atx-geforce-7050/itemid1060345734/?itemtext=itemname:asus-p5n73-am-motherboard-micro-atx-geforce-7050&fulldesc=1

Good luck

My Monitor turns off randomly

First check to make sure your drivers are up to date and the card is seated properly. Then If your graphics card is still under warranty take it back and get a new one. For some reason it is cutting out the signal to the monitor.

No display on monitor

no, its working as you said. try to uninstall your video if you installed to expansion slot (agp) then use the on board. that is one of the most common problems of pc specially when you're moving this from one place to another. if it boots from your onboard vga clean your uninstalled video card then reinstall to your agp. i hope that this helps you
