Changing a water inlet value on a dishwasher

make sure u r getting water to washer. is the water value turned on? if it is then most likely u need to replace the water inlet value

When the Dishwasher won't fill you'll need to check for the water inlet hose, the water inlet valve and the float switch assembly. When the water fills your dishwasher, a float rises along with it. As the float reaches a certain threshold level, it shuts off the flow of water, thereby preventing a leak. Sometimes the float can get stuck in the wrong position in your dishwasher, and it can prevent your dishwasher from filling. Sometimes it can happen due to float valve and on other occasions due to float switch. Inspect the water hose coming to the dishwasher for any blockages. If the hose is not clogged then check the water inlet valve for any clogs, if the water will not even fill for few seconds then certainly the water inlet valve is bad and should be replaced. You can also use a multimeter to check continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. If these are fine then it's due to Water Inlet Valve. Use a multimeter and check for the continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

check inlet water free flow. Check strainer at the inlet. check whether motor is running.

The only part that physically allows water to enter a dishwasher (upon receiving power from the control) is the inlet water-valve. I would test the inlet water-valve located directly where you in-coming water line is connected to.

Shut-off power to the dishwasher and remove the 2 prong connection to the water-valve solenoid (small, black, batter size). Test the solenoid for continuity; if bad, replace the entire inlet water-valve (cost about $20)

Sounds like you already know how to fix it. The inlet valve is only held closed by water pressure...if you have low water pressure it could be causing this. Its more likely just a bad fill valve though. The water inlet valve is accessed by removinf the lower kickplate and the sheild behind that. Then all you have to do is remove the water line from the valve, remove the 2 screws holding it and pull it out far enough to disconnect the 2(possibly 3) wires and the fill hose. Make sure to mark where your wires go, if you hook it up wrong it could continue to fill and overflow. Hope this helps!
