Goto control panel and open " phone and modem options" in that go to "Modems " Tab , U can see there option to "Add" the modem . Click that , it will automatically search for the modem connected to your system. After detecting the modem your search for the option "Query Modem" , access that and add the modems speed as 560000 kbps ..thats it ..your modem will work.

Laptop Toshiba L501 win vista home premium got problem RAS error code 608 when use with vodafone internet model K3765. This internet key work with other laptop run xp or vista... Could anyone please tell...

Hi,
Error #608
Error Message: The device does not exist.
Solution:
1. Check that the right modem is set in the dialer
2. Ensure that you are using the right modem drivers by checking the modem diagnostics. If it’s not the case, set up the correct drivers.
3. Remove and install the dialer again
4. Your modem might not be working properly; try to install it again.
5. You should then consult your computer manufacturer if the problem persists.

What wifi card for 12xl500 (compaq)?

It depends.

If your computer runs Windows XP or Windows Vista or Windows 7, every known brand-new wireless adapter will work.

If your computer has a PCMCIA slot (about the size/thickness of a credit-card), then you can buy a "PCMCIA wireless adapter".

If your computer has a USB slot (most do!) then you can buy a "USB wireless adapter".

There are three different data-transfer speeds for wireless communications:
* wireless B -- up to 11 megabits/second
* wireless G -- up to 54 megabits/second
* wireless N -- much faster.

Note that "high-speed" service from your local cable-modem ISP can receive at up to 10.0 megabits (or even faster) per second, while "lite-speed" service receives data at around 1.0 megabits per second.

So, when downloading, it's your cable-modem (or DSL-modem) that will be the "bottle-neck", not the "B" or "G" or "N" capability of your wireless adapter.

You probably can find "used" wireless-B or wireless-G adapters, in your local area:
* online, via 'www.usedEverwhere.com'
* local computer-stores
* online via eBay

for $10 to $20 dollars.

Pick a "brand-name", and you can download the device-drivers for it from the manufacturer's web-site ('www.linksys.com', 'www.dlink.com')
if Windows does not automatically recognize it.

Compaq pc, dual boot xp home/hp/pro

Yes it is best to format the PC and reload the OS again although I would suggest that you load the latest version of the WinXP family as single boot OS and work. It should give lesser problems with a single genuine anti-virus installed.......sodeep

Missing modem

what is XE3 circa 2002, 15 years young. wow.

XP is now 3 years dead, at microsoft.
why not at least upgrade to Win7. be wise to do that.
XP must have SP3, if not it will fail, and even with it it fail.
lots of USB devices for example will fail. here.
dial up, you dont run DSL.
ive not see dial up in 20 years. why dial up.?

if compelled to use dial up, you need a modem that XP understands
most of them it does not. nor will it ever,
there are 2 classes of modem. (DIAL up to POTS)
1: software modem (99% software, and a box) they SUX. all do.
2: hardware modem, best is USB. by
and A good dial up program,. windows dial up software stinks.

i see this is HP supported (was) modem
Agere systems soft PCI
it needs the HP.com driver to run that modem
does the number you dial buy hand (using a POTS phone)
dial up and answer and squeal? if not its hopeless that number
you need to pay for superscription service, and with a pass word.
LIKE HERE
http://www.earthlink.net/dialup/

THE PROBLEM IS HP NO LONGER SUPPORTS YOUR PC
SO THERE ARE NO DRIVERS. now.

why not get 10 year or newer PC, or get DSL to home
or cable modem with only 1 channel active, (slow like dialup)
for cheap. (im using 16channel now, as i type)

or buy a new modem and connect it and use the new modems
disk to install a nice dialer for you.
but finding one is not easy now.

the best modems, are Hayes, there hardware modems are like rock. i used them back in the ARPnet days and on amocat.

Home Center will not open...Can't scan

I needed to reload my AiO Home Center software and no one seemed to have the correct procedure. Maybe if you remove & reinstall yours it will resolve your problem. This procedure worked for me on my XP-machine:
1. got to Control Panel/Printers&Faxes and delete the printer
2. go to your Hardware/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controllers, right-click on USB Composite Device and select Uninstall
3. go to Control Panel/Add/Remove Software and remove the EasyShare software
4. disconnect the cables from the Printer
5. download from Kodak.com the program "install_aio.exe"; run the program
(I selected only AiO+EasyShare+Software Updater to load)
6. followed the prompts after the sw installed to reconnect the Printer cables
7. rebooted

WORKED for ME !
