TRYING TO SEND A FAX IM NOT SURE HOW TO OR WHAT

Make sure you are using the genuine brother line lead and not an old one from your previous machine. Look at the lcd and it should show date and time and fax at the end. If it does not say Fax then you have not set the auto receive to fax only.

Send a fax - Use the control panel and scanner glass 1. Make sure your All-In-One is on. 2. Open the top cover. 3. Put the first page of your document face down on the scanner glass in the upper left corner.
4. Close the top cover 5. On the control panel, press Fax. 6. Enter the fax number, then press black or color to send.

Use the control panel and ADF 1. Load up to 50 sheets of your original document face up in the ADF.

2. On the control panel, press Fax. 3. Enter the fax number, press black or color to send.

Try a exter phone in the exter slot to see you get tone. If you get tone then its in the fax . The fax phone card is bad.

Call a cell phone from the fax machine to be sure you are on the correct phone number.

Be sure you are plugged into the LINE port of the fax machine.

Your fax machine must be set to AUTO or you will have to press start when it is trying to receive a fax.

Tried turning on the "auto answer" button on the control panel? :-)

look on the panel if you have a setting for direct tx make sure the green light is not on also check your setting fine normal superfine should be on normal

you need to give more details on how you're trying to send the fax.
keep in mind you don't actually need a printer to send the fax if you're using your computer to send the fax.. that's the reason you need to be more precise when discribing your problem.

in general you need to be familiar with how things are connected.

if your printer is a fax machine too the minimum you need is to have your printer/fax connected to a line (to the telephone wall jack) and to be powered up.

if your printer is only a printer and you're using your computer to send the fax you need to have your modem (the connector in the back of your computer that looks like a telephone line but says not telephone but 'line' connected to the phone line on the wall) connected and have software that allows you send faxes via your computer. (windows xp has that software so you need to make sure is installed (start>control panel>add remove programs>add/remove windows components>fax services should be installed) and if the software is installed you should be able to go to start>accessories>communications>fax>fax console

confirm what is your set up and give more details.

call the number manually . and does it answer with a warble immediately or does the phone ring a lot and then answer.
your timeout may be set too short on the sending fax setup.

make sure phone line is pluged into line on fax,make sure fax is set auto.there should be a button on fax panel that say's receive mode.
