Just bought a memorex dvd player (MVD2016BLK), i had it working fine for about ten minutes when i turned it and my tv off. When i went to turn them back on, the dvd player only played in black and white. i made sure it was set up to PAL NTSC, but neither helped. is it my video cable? the cable has worked for years, and i am afraid the player is just a piece of junk.

Hi, Sounds like the lens is just really dirty. Go buy a leans cleaner disk and run it through the DVD player two or three times to get the lens good and clean. Repeat about once a month to keep the lens clean and running properly. Sometimes you need to run it through 3 or 4 times to get the lens to read again.
These disks I speak of have little bristles on it that "sweep" the lens clean. I use them on all my disk players and they work real well.

Regarding the problem with the sound on your DVD player, I would suggest you to make sure the audio cables (red and white) are connected properly to the TV and player.
Also, try using a different set of cables since those ones might not be working and this is why you are not getting audio. On the Memorex remote you will find a mute button, make sure it is not activated.
When a DVD player starts doing that, it either needs to be cleaned, or
something is going wrong with the DVD mechanism inside of it. You can
purchase DVD lens cleaner from any large retail store that has an
electronics section. However, since you just bought the unit, if it won't play any commercial DVD then you should return the unit to the retailer with your receipt. If you don't have the receipt, call Memorex at 800-919-3647.

I had the same issue and could have kicked myself in the ***! Make sure the AV slide switch is in the out position or it will not play at all. As soon as you switch from IN to OUT it will work properly.
