Compaq V2000 works on ac , but wont charge battery.

The cable you're describing is the Wireless Antenna cable.
One Black wire, one White wire.

1) ALL power removed from the laptop. AC adapter (Charger) and Battery
2) Observe Anti-Static Precautions

3) Laptop closed, turn it over, open Battery Compartment facing Away from you.
Open the Mini-PCI Compartment Cover.

(Bottom edge of laptop facing you, in the middle)

The Black and White Wireless Antenna cable leads, plug into the Mini-PCI Communications Module.
(Wireless module)

The connectors are designed so they will only plug in one way, and only to the respective connections.

Try booting into the BIOS Screen and resetting to factory defaults. If that fails suggest swapping the hard drive out and re-install the Operating System - Save your old data and migrate the data off the old drive. You can buy an external drive adapter to connect the harddrive to a USB port to migrate you data.

Take the Battery back Its defective , New batteries should charge for 18-24 hours, and the computer should tell u that it wont run till the battery is fully charged.

you might have shot out your battery because if electrical curent is goging in to the computer (te orange light is going on) but the computer wont turn on it might be a problem with your battey

Some laptops will not power up with a completely discharged or faulty battery. Remove the battery from the laptop, plug in the power cord and try to boot the system. If the system boots, your battery needs to be replaced. Replace your battery as soon as you can, it's not a good idea to run the laptop for extended periods with an open battery bay.

My guess since the battery checked fine in another laptop would indeed be the charging board or charging circuit on the motherboard.

hi.. unfortunately i've seen many cases like this and it looks as if from what you are describing that your laptop is fried if there is no boot up at all.. how old is you laptop and what brand is it?

If it is working fine with AC Adaptor, change your battery it need replacement.

use ebay, same thing but cheaper in prices... i got my presario v2000 ac power charger for 24.50 with shipping and handling.... took 3 days and it arrived unless u want to do overnight shipping which is like an extra 12 bucks which is good too... WELL WORTH IT EBAY IS THE PLACE... i think his name is "honestworks" or something like that buy it from him he has a one year warranty if any defects occur...
