Home Theatre system goes into MUTE mode while film playing

I purchased a Sony Home Theatre system - model DAVHDX285. Sound is great - but the sound keep cutting out - system puts itself on MUTE for no apparent reason. Is there a remedy?

I have returned unit to store and now second unit (brand new) is doing same thing.

Sounds like your system is going into a safe mode. This happens when you have a neg/pos reversed hooked up, or your wires are touching. This feature prevents you from blowing up your amp. Check your wires, and make sure the positive is hooked to positive etc. and make sure no bare wires are touching.

Get my dish reciever, sony home theatre, and 55in sanyo tv to work together

If your TV and sound system both have a Digital Optical Out/In you can use a TOSLink cable (an optical cable) to connect your TV directly to your sound system, and remove the connection between the DISH receiver and the sound system. As long as your sound system is on the right input, all sound accompanying the picture on screen will go to your sound system. Most TVs also have an option to turn off the internal speakers, if not just reduce your volume all the way down to avoid that weird ghost sound effect. If you use your sound system all the time for volume, you can program the sound system to your DISH remote's AUX, and even set the remote so that it only sends volume and mute commands to the sound system (that way you don't have to dance between sat, tv, and aux all day, just leave it in sat mode).

To program your remote to the sound system, follow the instructions on the sheet you got with the remote (yeah, right like anyone kept that) http://www.mydish.com/support/remotecodes you can use that link to program your remote. You can also use the learning mode if your remote has a little glossy square on the top left side and you have the original remote to the sound system. (Learning mode can be gleaned from the remote manual Remote Control Manuals)

After programming the aux device, and verifying that it changes the volume up, down, and mute, THEN:

Hold AUX until light blinks 3 times, hit pound (#), Volume Up, 0 (Zero), pound (#), SAT, then test to make sure it goes up and down.

The TV and process the sound differently so the echo is a just a time smear. You shouldn't actually need to augment the HTS speakers with (ugh) TV speakers.

As far as comparative TV-sound loudness goes, if you drew it from the Cable Box to the audio system I'm sure it would be the same as your other audio. TV

Does this model have Bravia sync?

Yes it does per SONY web site:

I assume you mean the TV sound only comes out of the TV. THAT would involve internal audio controls at the TV.

Why don't you just connect the TV-related audio directly from each source to the DAV instead of through the TV, which adds NOTHING to the sound quality and may even degrade or limit it.

Sony Model DAV ? SB 500W Home Theatre System

Please check at rear of TV for Digital Optical IN port as home theater should have optical out port at rear. If you got any optical in port in TV, just connect optical wire between TV and home theater.

2nd option is check Line Out pins at rear of home theater system, if found, hook red-white RCA cable there and put it to same input in TV where you hooked Video (composite or component) cable.

Let me know the results to help you more.
