I have replaced bulbs in 3 different types of NEC projectors: a silver, older model thta uses a VT60LP bulb, model VT595 and VT470. The lamp will still not work - the power and status light just continue to blink with no illumination

I had the same issue, what I figured out was that I never removed the lamp door correctly, causing a small plastic piece to break off. To see if this is also your problem, inspect the back of the lamp door, top right corner, if it seems a rectangular plastic piece is missing, thats the problem. It presses in a small button nearby the lamp to let the projector know it's safe to power on.

Thanks a lot. This is a big help. The plastic is very thin and fragile so the owner or even the technician would not notice that it is broken if not careful in removing the cover.

If the status light is blinking red:
1 time- lamp cover or housing error. check lamp door.
2 times- temperature error.
4 times- fan error. one or more fans bad.
6 times- lamp fails to light. if lamp is new, ballast is bad.

NEC vt470 projector suddenly not turning on

I'm with Greg on this, I've had both of those problems individually on different VT4xx's (having both a number of them and a working knowledge of screwdrivers, figured out what was up by process of elimination). Sometimes bulbs die early - if it's really early you might want to see if there was any warranty period remaining on it - and the power boards in these projectors do sometimes break down. They were built in an at-risk period for having troublesome power capacitors installed into them, for starters...

If you are e.g. at a school which has several of these projectors issued to individual teachers, organise to swap the bulbs over between both your units and see which, if either of them, still work afterwards. If theirs was originally working, and after the swap, both are dead, you've got a dead bulb AND something else wrong with the projector, POSSIBLY but not necessarily that PCB. If yours then works but theirs doesn't, it's the bulb. And if there's no change, then both bulbs are good but your projector is toast.

And if it turns out that it's a projector fault, unless either you or an in-house tech can investigate and do the fix either for free or very cheaply, it's probably not worth getting it repaired. These models are really quite old and under-spec these days, and you can replace the entire thing with a brand new model of similar specification - with a working bulb installed! - than it would cost you to buy a single replacement bulb for the NEC.

Having a problem getting past the red blinking status and orange blinking when trying to start up a NEC VT595 projector. This is after installing a new bulb.

I have had the same problem with my NEC VT695, however, while trying to repair it, I actually broke off two pieces, first the arm that is attached to the lamp cover that depresses the button, and then the actual button itself. Does anyone know any way to bypass this need to have the lamp cover seated 'properly'?

NEC VT595 Projector - Status light blinks red constantly

We had this same problem. In our case it turned out that a little bit of plastic broke off of a tab on the inside of the plastic lamp cover. Without that piece it was not pressing against the sensor that tells the projector that the lamp cover is closed. Without that, it doesn't start. We got it working again by drilling a little hole and sticking a screw through that spot to replace the missing plastic, but I'd rather replace the cover if I could. Really dumb that a little piece of plastic can mess up thousands of dollars worth of equipment (Smartboard 2000i).

Nec vt470 lamp does not come on. replace lamp, when turned on status light turns red and get 3 beeps. lamp does not come on.

If you replaced the lamp already, chances are the ballast is defective. When you power on the projector with the power button you should see a flicker of light in the lens, or an electrical sound. If you don't you ballast is bad.

Lamp light stays solid red . i already replaced bulb. any solutions?

Check your owners manual for diagnostics. You can find all documentation for your VT595/695 projector on the NEC support site.

The users guide indicates that the lamp timer needs to be reset. Instructions can be found on page 49 of the users guide.

Press and hold the HELP button on the remote control for 10 seconds to reset the timer.

Try pressing the HELP button. Don't release and press the power button. The LED lights should blink. Release then try to power on again.
