I have installed it in a PC running XP Home and after a lot of issues I managed to obtain an IP address and connection, but after about three minutes the connection is lost.

There is a configuration facility included with the modem that you should be able to access to help troubleshoot the connection.
The Cable Modem has three active interfaces, the HFC, the Ethernet and the USB and each
interface has both a MAC and an IP address associated with it. When operating normally it is the
IP address of the HFC interface that is used for diagnostic access to the modem. However the IP
address associated with the Ethernet interface is always available to the client side network,
unless it has been disabled by management command. This means that a PC on the client side
can access the WEB pages within the modem using the reserved address 192.168.100.1. This is
a non-routed address so it cannot be reached from the Internet (routed) side of the network
The SB5100 family of modems contain an internal DHCP server, which is active until the modem
registers with the CMTS. In the case of a problem that prevents the modem from completing its
registration, the modem can still give an IP address to the client PC to enable diagnostics access.
This address is given with a very short lease (around 10 seconds) so that as soon as the
registration does complete the client PC obtains its proper IP address from the core network
DHCP server.
From what I can tell you are using Mozilla Firefox Try using Internet Explorer if ip address id not valid it will tell you Internet Explorer cannot display webpage In order to renew ip address these are the steps you will want to take:
1. Ensure the equipment is connected correctly(Ethernet cord from modem to Internet port on router
2.Open network connections Win XP:Start/Run/Type ncpa.cpl
Vista/Win 7 Start/search bar/type ncpa.cpl
3.This will bring you to your network connections window
4.If using XP: Double click on wireless connection and hit the support tab. Ensure it is assigned by DHCP and the ip address should start with 192.
5. If Vista Or Windows 7 Right click on wireless conenction and hit properties. Uncheck version Internet Protocol Version 6
6. Click and Highlight internet protocol Version 4 and hit properties
7. ensure that it shows obtain ip address and obtain a dns server automatically
8.After go to Command Prompt (Win XP) Start/Run/Type CMD
Windows7/Vista:Start Start/All Programs/Accessories/Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator then hit continue type in these commands.
1.netsh int ip reset reset.log
2.netsh int ip delete arpcache
3.netsh winsock reset
4.ipconfig /flushdns
9. Restart Computer hope this helps please rate thank you
Hi, I had something like that with my Belkin Router N+N with USB F6D6230-4 V1, only I had a configuration wit a wired XP pc, Wireless XP and Wireless Vista. With both XP pc’s it was really plug and play, but with the Vista pc I had some problems to access the on the router connected USB drive. The Vista pc was connected to the network, and had Inet access. Other shared (network) drives were accessible on the Vista pc. The first thing I tried was if I could access the drive trough its IP address, (\\routerIP in my case \\192.168.2.1), and I did get a question for a username and password. The only thing is that I tried all the regular names like Admin, Administrator, and so on, with my password but I did not get access. On the internet there was no help to find for this model router on the Belkin websites (diverent country’s), the data on the Belkin websites is out of date, there is no support to find for new models. ………. So finely I did took the phone and did call the support desk… Solution to my problem: The problem seems to be in the Belkin storage manager program, that program works not correct under Vista. When I enter the routers IP and use the username “guest” without a password, it get access to it from my Vista pc. The follow thing I did was press the right mouse button on the drive, and press on “make connection”So.. \\RouterIP Username : guest Password : none Hope, that this is also the solution to your problem. If the wireless security on the router is enabled, then the pre-shared key or encryption key on the router and PC should match.
To check the wireless settings, use the laptop to access the web interface of the router. Follow the steps below:
1 Using your Internet browser, go to http://dsldevice.lan or to the IP address of your router (by default: 192.168.1.254). 2 On the Home Network menu, click Wireless. 3 In the upper-right corner, click Details. 4 The wireless Access Point page appears. Under: - Configuration, you can find the network name (SSID). - Security, you can find the encryption.
On the PC wireless, access the wireless network connection. Select the SSID and then type the encryption key or pre-shared key.
Once the encryption key on the PC and router matches, then you should obtain an IP address and get online.
make sure the modem box is connected to the INTERNET port of the wireless N router. and the desktop to any of the regular Ethernet ports on the back of the wireless N router. Also try replacing the Ethernet cable that is connecting the desktop to the wireless N router. Then check the IP address of the desktop computer - to do that, go to the command prompt by clicking on Start. Run, then type CMD and hit OK - on the black screen type IPCONFIG - the IP address usually starts with 192 if you have a router - try to ping a website from the command prompt by typing PING www.yahoo.com then press enter - if able to get the word reply 4 times, it means the computer is connected to the iinternet.. it's just that there's something blocking the connection - if there's 4 replies, check if there's a security software installed on the computer for ex Norton, try disabling it temporarily and see if you can get online - if there's no reply on the PING test, and you just got request timed out or host unreachable, double check the TCP/IP settings on the computer, make sure it's set to Obtain IP Address Automatically and Obtain DNS Server Address Automatically - to check TCP/IP settings on the computer, if you have xp, go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections then right click on Local Area Connection and click Properties, look for Internet Protocol TCP/IP , just double click on it and from there you will be able to see the status..
There's a big possibility that your computer is set with a static IP, computer should be set to Obtain n ip automatically, follow this Go to control panel and network connection then look for Wireless connection>right click on it and click on properties>look for Internet proptocol TCP/IP from the list>click propeties>a new window will open just set it to both Obtain and then click on OK and close all the window, then after that check if the computer is already getting a new IP if still no restart the computer....
hopefully you have'nt give the pc the same ip address as the other as it won't connect.
You will need to make sure that DHCP is enabled within the routers settings as this will tell the router to assign ip addresses automatically, then go to network connections, right click on your wireless network card>properties>TCP/IP line>properties and tick 'obtain an ip address automatically', click ok, close window and restart pc.
Open up internet explorer>tools>internet options>connections tab and ensure that never dial a connection is ticked or the option greyed out, close I.E. then open up again, click refresh and it should connect.
is the wireless network adapter driver installed on your pc? if its properly installed you have to reconfigure the wireless network adapter to your belkin router. wireless usb adapter should obtain the ip address from your belkin router
You need to be connected using wired Ethernet (PC's LAN card to Router's Ethernet Port (at the back)). This is the preferable INITIAL way to configure the router before going wireless. Also it would be to your advantage to initially set your PC (that will be used for configuring the router) to "Specify an IP address" (static settings) and not "Obtain an IP address automatically."
For a PC connected via UTP networking cable attached to a Belkin F5D6130 AP, the networking settings could be: IP Address 192.168.2.2 Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway 19*2.168.2.1 DNS Server 192.168.2.1 Reboot
Is wireless connection enabled in your routers wireless settings and not encrypted in any way until a connection is established.
Make sure your router is set to enable DHCP, as this will give your wireless card an IP address automatically.
Ensure your card is set to obtain an ip address automatically.
If not look in your routers setup(normally by typing 192.168.2.1, in your internet browser) to see what IP address and DNS address it has given your connected pc (eg 192.168.2.3).
Then go into your cards properties and use the IP address 192.168.2.4, but the same DNS address(probably 255.255.255.0); then re start the wireless pc and the router if neccasary.
If you still get no connection, ensure wireless light is on; on your router, and you have no obstacles in the way of the signal.
If you are using WEP encryption it is normally a Shared key setting rather than an open key setting.
Please reate this solution.
